fossils retreat

Thursday, May 9, 2013. Bye Bye to Summer 2012/13. Yummy field mushrooms and a bountiful supply of our free range eggs. The Patricias and the rest of the hens were finally established in their new house, complete with run, which has been located in the paddock where our barn is (a long way from the vege garden! They get let out after they have laid their daily eggs to have a forage round and literally 'free range'. Will we ever be able to get our deck done? Will we ever have time to sit on a deck with not...

fossils retreat: January 2011

http://fossilsretreat.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 3, 2011. Make Hay While the Sun Shines. We had part of our larger front paddock cut for hay, which was about all we had spare due to the near-drought weather conditions. We took a day off on Sunday 2 January to have a picnic at the races at Tauherenikau, just north of Featherston, only to arrive home at 6 o'clock, tired and sunburned, to find lots of neat little hay bales scattered over the paddock. As we keep reminding ourselves, it appears very difficult to plan one's daily activities -...

fossils retreat: February 2012

http://fossilsretreat.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 23, 2012. Guilty Wrap-Up of 2011 - Part 1. Sorry folks, for being such slack-asses over the mid-end part of last year. It was another wet, cold winter - endless days of leaving for work and arriving home in total darkness and a freezing house. Once our grand fire got roaring, the news was on, and a stockpot of pig peas cooking on the. Over the next few days, I'll just do quick progress updates of the remainder of 2011 to catch us up to almost March. Shame on us! Denise and Tansy 'froli...

fossils retreat: More Arrivals and Departures

http://fossilsretreat.blogspot.com/2012/09/more-arrivals-and-departures.html

Thursday, September 27, 2012. More Arrivals and Departures. Our population has gone up and down. Beatrice, our last ewe to lamb, produced a lovely little girl last Friday. Beatrice, along with Barbara and Bianca, are our first three ewe lambs born at Fossils Retreat. Proud Mum, Beatrice, with baby Diana - 1 day old. Another hit by the mystery paintballer. Not a very clear picture, I am afraid, of our newcomers - they are the brown ones at the back of the pen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

fossils retreat: Meet The Patricias

http://fossilsretreat.blogspot.com/2013/04/meet-patricias.html

Thursday, April 4, 2013. The Patricias, helping to dig a hole for a new tree, heading for a speedy decapitation from the spade. The Patricias have, however, become somewhat of a nuisance as far as the vegetable gardens are concerned. They have been cramped in their living quarters, and as we market our eggs as being free range, they are let out to roam early to mid morning. It didn't take them long to roam over to investigate the vege gardens. And cause destruction and mayhem. A more permanent structure ...

fossils retreat: March 2012

http://fossilsretreat.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 31, 2012. We had been waiting and waiting in anticipation for our two heavily pregnant Dexter matriarchs - Bella and Bonnie - to produce their calves. It was very late last year (according to Wairarapa birthing schedules) when we leased LEGEND, a very handsome red Dexter with impeccable pedigree, who could not arrive until we had a loading race in position into our yards. Bonnie was the first to produce on 4 March . Dawn and Paddy - Dawn is 3 weeks old here, and Paddy 1 week old. We start...

Exiled New Zealander: 25 August 2010

http://exilednzer.blogspot.com/2010/08/25-august-2010.html

A Kiwi, far from home. Wednesday, 25 August 2010. Some progress today: I am going to be able to have a full time assistant again after all. HR is on the case and is following up with our chosen candidate, so with a bit of luck I will have somebody in the role again by the middle of September. Hurrah! Labels: life in the UK. A Kiwi, far from home. Tuesday, 6 April 2010. Party people, I had such a nice Easter weekend. It was mostly uneventful, but it was splendid to loaf around and not be at work - last week, I think a fifth working day could have killed me. Tristan was away all day on Saturday, which gave me an opportunity to finish watching series two of Sex and the City. The sexual partner count from this series is:. Carrie: five (not counting Big, as she slept with him in series one). On the craft front I. There is nothin...

A Kiwi, far from home. Saturday, 28 August 2010. I've moved my blog to wordpress.com because it will look better on iPhones and because I'm sick of the photo posting problems at blogger.com. http://exilednzer.blogspot.com/2010/08/2-august-2010.html

A Kiwi, far from home. Monday, 2 August 2010. So, I'm eating lunch at my desk and reading that Frugal Trenches blog that I mentioned in my last post. It's inspiring stuff, although this entry. Made me wonder whether the author was really a woman in her twenties and not a computer-generated character. She's got a level of emotional maturity that most people twice her age would kill to possess. But it felt very good to do something active again. Later on in the evening the two of them asked me how I was ge...

http://exilednzer.blogspot.com/2010/08/24-august-2010.html

A Kiwi, far from home. Tuesday, 24 August 2010. It's GCSE results day. And my colleague Susan is very happy: her son scored A* in all ten of his subjects. Even allowing for accusations of dumbing down and grade inflation, that's a great effort. She bought cakes for the whole department to celebrate, bless her. And then I got to go home to a really, really intelligent and really, really nice person as well, so I really have no cause to complain. But will that stop me? Last night we saw the film Salt.

A Kiwi, far from home. Friday, 27 August 2010. Long term readers may recalled that I finished some post-graduate study a couple of years ago. After my writing workshop. On a different topic entirely: blog reader Raker. Probably not her real name) has been fighting breast cancer this year, diagnosed not long after the birth of her second child. But she's had her last chemo session! Fantastic news, and let's all cross our fingers for her that this is the end of the breast-related dramas. A View From A Broad.

http://exilednzer.blogspot.com/2010/03/27-march-2010.html

A Kiwi, far from home. Saturday, 27 March 2010. This week I've been all about the long posts, so today I'm posting photos instead. And words as well, obviously. Tristan's suggested that I might want to buy myself a fancy-pants designer handbag and I've been contemplating the Mulberry Bayswater in chocolate brown. So I will keep thinking about the fancy-pants bag purchase for a while longer. So, that's a pictorial account of my past week! Of course that has more to do with the other things that Im attachi...
