Foundations for Recovery raises money to provide grants for disaster relief and recovery work. It is a project of community foundations, including the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Northshore Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana. After Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans and claimed 1,577 Louisiana lives, the Foundations for Recovery project raised more than $45 million for immediate relief efforts and for projects that would reduce needs in the long-run.
