Found in the Fells – September

http://www.foundinthefells.com/monthly/FoundSept.htm

Found in the Fells – September. The message in The Fells for September is – ‘summer isn’t over yet’. But these are not the only flowers in bloom. A tall pink goldenrod-like plant, Joe-Pye-weed, is in bloom. The delightful member of the snapdragon family called Butter-and-eggs is an introduction from Europe found in sunny spots alongside paths; but deeper in the woods by streams can be found a native relative - Turtlehead - with pairs of white flowers looking, yes, like the head of a turtle. A garter snak...

Found in the Fells – September

http://www.foundinthefells.com/monthly/FoundAug.htm

Found in the Fells – August. It may feel that summer is going by all too quickly, but not to worry, there is plenty of flowering time left. One of the most notable flowers of August in the Fells - noticeable by both its heavy scent and prominent spikes of white flowers - is Sweet Pepperbush, a very common shrub in damp areas. Certainly not a daisy, but not a fungus either, is Indian Pipe which, after rain, will emerge ghost-like on the forest floor. Joe-Pye Weed Eupatorium maculatum.

July | 2009 | A Walk in the Woods

https://middlesexfells.wordpress.com/2009/07

A Walk in the Woods. July 16, 2009. A pond at Upton State Forest. Yesterday I was able to visit Upton State Forest in central Massachusetts. It is a 2000 acre forest that is mainly forest. There are many trails and it was a pretty nice place. The woods appeared to all be secondary forest although the 3 1/2 hours I spent there did not allow me to cover the entire park. Butterfly | A Walk in the Woods

https://middlesexfells.wordpress.com/2009/09/05/butterfly

A Walk in the Woods. September 5, 2009. A field of flowers. I had a nice walk the other day that led me to a field of wonderful flowers. Just as pretty as the flowers were the many lovely butterflies that were flitting about. I don’t know if the field was planted to yield the bounty of flowers, or if this was a plan to favor butterfly sightings, but it sure was having that outcome. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. A Walk in the Woods. June 4, 2009. Witches Hat on Witch hazel Leaves. Today was my first visit to the fells. I went on a nice walk with my wife and a friend. The fells are huge! We walked around Long Pond and when I saw the map after we walked, I realized this was a tiny water body when compared to some of the others.
