Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Out and about in Matsue. Here we see the Delightful Miss E, on one of her jaunts to her Matsue country retreat, sitting on the couch at a charming little bar by the main river. The bar is called Bar EAD, and is somehow related to a shop from Tokyo. This I don't understand. Posted by Sir S at 10:20 PM. The beast of kawatsu. Posted by Sir S at 10:13 PM. Monday, August 14, 2006. Being the dimwitted rock gods that we are, the Delightful Miss E and I completely failed to prepare accomodation in Osaka when we were "planning" our summersonic trip. In the end we decided that the best thing to do was to just turn up in Osaka and assume we could find a room. It's a huge city with many hotels, surely we would have no problem . So what does one get for 6000 yen? Amateur porn channels you have. I restrained myself from taking pictures of. The Budweiser girl (!

Friday, February 16, 2007. Oh honourable and exalted Reader, I must interrupt again, for today I will humbly attempt to offer up an explanation of polite speech in Japan. In keeping with the topic of this lowly post, the explanation shall be volunteered using the kind of speech which this unworthy writer regularly encounters in many noble and important businesses here. This post is to be respectfully written in the language used by my august interlocutors in their speech. Posted by Sir S at 9:38 AM.

Sunday, April 30, 2006. Defences against Kenpo 2. This is of course my fault. I trained at a school with an extensive array of kung fu opportunities available to me, and when my instructor beat me up he didn`t use much kickboxing at all. I should have learnt some of that kung fu! Posted by Sir S at 12:13 PM. I like to ride my bicycle. This bike is so cute, so adorable, that every time I approach it at its parking spot I have to say to myself "Yes we can! Could it be any cuter? Posted by Sir S at 12:01 PM.

Wednesday, September 27, 2006. I have almost collected the entire set of seasons here in Japan - last year I experienced winter in Hiroshima, and since I moved here I have had spring, summer and now am moving into Autumn. Autumn here is quite marvellous, being characterised by singing insects, warm days, brilliant light, little rain, cool nights and (finally! Posted by Sir S at 7:52 PM. Matsue, International City of Culture. Posted by Sir S at 7:32 PM. Sunday, September 03, 2006. Japan is meant to have l...

Thursday, November 30, 2006. Of the Devils tongue and Anglers' sweetmeats. Which we did, while drinking beer (and then chu-hi (and then wine) . The food consisted of, approximately:. A field of mushrooms of different sorts. A whole chicken, cut into little chunks. A big tray of fish. Half a daikon radish. A plastic bag full of some sort of herb. About half a kilo of oysters. A small amount of some other meat -maybe pork? I don't like to ask. A whole Anglerfish, including its tail and offal. 3 cups of rice.

Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Secondly, becoming a priest is quite easy, since it merely requires that one study manners, learn the prayers, and study the history of Japan (starting at the Kojiki. And reading forward) and Shintoism. There may be an internship involved - Mr. N worked for a while at the Yasukuni Jinja, which is surely going to lead to some charming conversations when we next meet - but I don't think this is essential. University attendance is not essential. Posted by Sir S at 12:07 AM.

Wednesday, May 24, 2006. I have had occasion over the last few months to say a few bad things about Australia, and I have to pause when people here ask me "which do you prefer", but my experience of people`s reactions to some very (I think) Australian aspects of my personal behaviour have given me cause to reflect positively on my home country. I have also heard stories from others` home countries which make me think, "wow! Posted by Sir S at 6:07 PM. In my patented taxonomy). Also, sometimes people ...
