All domestic chickens can be genetically traced to Gallus Gallus, The Red Jungle Fowl over 8,000 years ago. The closest living relative of the Tyrannosaurus-Rex is the chicken. A chickens' heart beats 250-355 times a minute depending on breed. A chickens' body temperature is around 103°F. A chicken takes 20-36 breaths per minute. A chicken is 75% water. Chickens can live to be 20 years old, but on average they live to be about 8 years old. To produce a dozen eggs, a chicken has to eat about 4lbs of feed.

My name is Julie and I Love Chickens! I also have two house-rabbits, sisters Poppy and Daisy who I rehomed five years ago. They have full-run of my garden which they access through the cat flap. The most recent additions to my home are three cats, Kirk, Picard and Janeway (siblings). I rehomed them over a year ago from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. I am a volunteer for Fresh Start for Hens. The best place for any hen is always in their own environment, but this isnt always possible such as when you go on holiday. Any hens staying at Fowlty Towers are treated as if they were part of my own flock. They get all the love and affection I adorn on my girls, not mentioning the numerous treats, greens, fruit and fresh water twice a day. Minimum stay is 2 nights. 2-4 hens: £7 per Cube 3 metre run per night. 6 hens considered for a short stay for an extra £1 per night per hen. Fully disinfected Cube on arrival. All feed / grit / shell / corn / water and bedding. Cube will be cleaned out twice a week. For an extra £1 per hen, I can offer a worming service. Your hens will be fed Marriages Layers Pellets and Flubenvet for a total of seven days.

If you have a preference of colour, we have a choice of two - the Purple or one of the two Emerald Palaces. If your particular choice is available, your hens will be housed in that Cube.
