Just a pair of lovebirds. This past weekend, I opened a can of pumpkin. With it, I made Ina Garten’s pumpkin roulade (a sponge cake roll filled with mascarpone whipped cream), and two loaves of moist, tender pumpkin chocolate chip bread. As far as the first, if you know the Barefoot Contessa, you know her recipes are essentially fool-proof. Here is her flawless recipe for pumpkin roulade. This has also become one of John’s favorite desserts (along with tiramisù. 3 1/2 c all-purpose flour. 1 1/2 t salt.

Just a pair of lovebirds. The Redemption of a Red Velvet Cake. I couldn’t throw it away. I mean, could you? I made an executive decision: I’d trifle it. Whipped cream, dark chocolate, and raspberries can fix anything. What can’t you do if you have one, two or all three? And it was great! John and his grandparents had seconds, and then John said it was better than poke cake! That’s quite a statement since poke cake is one of the few desserts he really likes. 3 When in doubt, trifle it. September 18, 2013.
