September 16, 2013. Crayons, thanks to the help of this blog post at Lil Blue Boo:. Http:/ www.lilblueboo.com/2012/03/recycled-crayons-a-tutorial.html. We had WAY more broken and unwrapped crayons than I thought. For this entire project, I only used about half of what I ended up with here.. These silicone ice cube trays come in fun shapes and can be found for only $1! Little Miss R just had to peel more wrappers off. It was good help since she really wanted pink crayons. September 1, 2013. 220 yards wor...

July 7, 2012. We've been enjoying a busy June and beginning of July. Busy - not like the swamped feeling of too much to do, but the feeling of trying to get the most out of the time that one possibly can. We've been taking lots of trips to parks, lakes, the wading pool. and the craft store. There happen to be a lot of babies on the way this year - how exciting! And that means a lot of knitting and crocheting for me. I love it. Dam near St. Cloud State University, Mississippi River. Adventures at the Lake.

September 18, 2012. This week, I found a zippered pouch that I'd stored away and decided to personalize it a little. It's made of duffle bag material, but a regular sewing needle went through it easily. I used 3 strands of embroidery floss and decided on a monogram for the "design". First, I measured out the center and drew my "K" on the front with a ball point pen. (I knew I'd be embroidering over it, so it wasn't a big deal to me.. I finished with another solid line of dark silver. Ta-dah! 65279;ʌ...

May 4, 2012. A great gal in our local knitting group had a Wizard of Oz party. We watched the movie, knit, spin, and ate some yummy themed treats (yellow brick road cheese and crackers, ruby-red-slipper-thread licorice, green punch, I'm Melting! I hadn't spun in almost a year - yikes - so I ordered a custom colorway from Wren in the Ivy (link here). It's modeled after the Emerald City, and I love it! Wren in the Ivy. Custom Colorway - The Emerald City. Now I just have to try my hand at plying.

June 14, 2013. I'm really excited about this project. I bought a permanent transfer pen and a small cotton drawstring bag. With some tracing paper and practice, I made myself a personalized project bag for my knitting/crochet. The flower image is not my original, but "Frances and the Bee" is! You can see my new blog about beekeeping and life in Minnesota at www.francesandthebee.blogspot.com. Also, I'm working on getting some more items up in my Etsy store, FrancesandtheBee. April 25, 2013. Pattern: Short Order Toddler Mittens. Short Order Toddler Mittens. One day, my little girl told me she needed some rainbow mittens. These mittens are the result of the order she put it. It’s a great project for using up some scrap yarn, but can require a LOT of weaving in ends if you choose to do the whole rainbow, like I did. It’s definitely worth it in the end! Worsted weight yarn in a bunch of colors – seven if you’re doing the whole rainbow. A little goes a long way on little hands!

August 3, 2013. Art Yarn Cowl by Erica Knudson. I designed this cowl because I had this bright art yarn for YEARS and didn’t know what to do with it. I started this experiment, and voila! I love how it turned out. It is knit in-the-round and is an adult Women’s Medium. It is easily adapted to other sizes by subtracting from or adding to the cast on in multiples of 6 sts. 150 yards art yarn (Mine was as thin as thread in places, extra bulky in others.). Size 13 circular needle. 8 Repeat row 7. 16 Worsted ...
