Back in The Canal…. August 14, 2015. September 2, 2015. I’ll be drinking from a gold mug that I procured as part of that project as I write this (not solid Gold). Here is my itinerary as it stands (and calling it that makes it real, this trip that seems unreal as I collect photo’s and snippets of old to keep me company along the way):. Saturday 12th: Birmingham-Dudley Port Junction (15 miles). Sunday 13th: Dudley Port Junction-Brewood Wharf. (14 miles). Wednesday 16th: Audlem-Beeston (13 miles). You are ...

Day 7: Chester to Ellesmere Port. October 2, 2015. October 5, 2015. I line up Taylor’s boat yard from an old picture from the 1950’s. Later that day I hear stories of a film maker who filmed scenes there, the boat makers as traditional as ever. Much joy is had by the party when I unlock the toilets with my BW key. We have gone about 100 meters. Taking our time as we have we tramp on through the flatlands of Cheshire. Old telegraph poles for telephone exchanges when wires were plugged to different cod...

Tangents in people and a distraction in documents. April 17, 2015. May 6, 2015. Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th. I’m still blindly making lists and groping in the dark trying to find a method to my searching. I’m thinking about the bigger picture; what is the bigger story I’m trying to tell? And there’s that over arching narrative for the whole of canal system. Which follows a similar trajectory in rising up, and being left, re-discovery and new sense of purpose. Perhaps. Back to the beginning…. May 28, 2015. September 2, 2015. I’m reading The Canal Age by Charles Hadfield. And there is some concern about my walking, as a woman on my own-I am inviting people to join me-long or short distances, and places to stay incidentally along the way. So if that is of interest franms@mac.com, it will be in September (dates still being decided). Those canals that have seen so much. Along The Shropshire Union: A Proposal. Back in The Canal… →. Boats, ideas and a sudden sense of purpose. May 6, 2015. May 6, 2015. In the weeks that follow the last blog post, I find myself still at a loss in the depth of material. Still feeling a little like an intruder, an interloper on inland waterways. I’m still looking for something to hold onto. About a Ruin Lust Tate exhibition from 2013. I coul...
