I first met Frances in 1980 or 1981, and thus cannot give firsthand data from before that. She was then working in the personnel office of the National Rifle Association, at its old headquarters at 1600 Rhode Island Avenue (since replaced by a hotel) and I was an outside attorney to them. Here's a photo I took of her at her desk in the personnel office back then, when we were about 29-30. At one point he dated a young lady who went on to become Mrs. Elliot Ness. You must let me in! Mark was born May 18, 1985. I wouldn't say he was a large baby, but here is Fran shortly before he was born. Here's a photo of Fran, probably hours after he was born. They're in Fairfax Hospital, where she would pass on 18 years later. And of us, probably a week or so later, at home in Falls Church:. My parents drove in for the christening (Dad, who served in the Army Air Force in WWII, has never flown since, so they drove all the way from Tucson). Here they are with their first grandchild.

After Fran's death, I did find some photos and other memorabilia relating to her youth. Here's an image of her and her mother, seems to be around age 8 or so. And here is what appears to have been one of her schoolbooks, with her name written on it.

We were married August 21, 1982, at St. Bernadette's in Maryland, Fran's parish church. Frances Avery attended Regina High School in Hyattsville Maryland, I believe from 1964 to 1968. Among her effects was an album with pictures from those days. Some of the pages follow:. I cannot identify any of the people except from notes on the back of some of the pictures. The top right person signed "Linda Jean," the top center person signed hers "Madeleine," and the lower right one "Jackie.". The top left person signed "Eleanor," top right is her friend Toni Matthews, bottom is her friend Judy Cannon.
