Monday, September 24, 2012. I'm also finding out about "mistakes" and what it means to continue to work with them. Some of my most favorite pieces have felt like huge mistakes at some point leaving me feeling a bit stumped but sure there's more interesting things to follow. Collage: hand painted papers, paint (acrylic, metallic), pencil, pen, mat medium on bristol paper. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friday, October 17, 2014. Starting points for further work. I've started an online class with Jane Davies. On themes and doing things in series. These two collages will be my starting point as I work on the mountains of quick prints that are gathering on my studio floor. I became obsessed with leaf printing this summer and really want to use all that gorgeous material. Sea life and more work of the spring. Collage and mixed media. Fabric of the Sea". Monday, November 5, 2012. I've become more curious about working in a unplanned, responsive way with a certain raw messiness. Like playing in a sandbox. This piece took many turns. For a while it was a wildly gestural mess. I do love working that way. Once I began to play around with more structured shapes the piece began to fall into place. Great surprise. unveiling: Leaf printing obsessions
http://susanclarkart.blogspot.com/2014/10/mono-printing-leaf-prints-for-this-year.html
Thursday, October 16, 2014. I found there was something about using the forms of plants that brought about a feeling of open spaces and architecture. I was inspired to build. So I used the prints as building blocks for collage, just as kids love to builld their own castles and forts. I loved combining familiar elements in not so obvious, almost mysterious ways, bringing a new appreciation for the forms. The Wood is Nourished". Collage on Bristol paper. Collage on Bristol paper. Tuesday, November 11, 2014. More monoprinting possibilities with November's Gelli plate class. November's mono printing class at Alexandra Sheldon's studio. Was some serious fun! Alexandra's studio was full as we had a non-stop afternoon of gelatin/Gelli plate exploration. There were twelve of us and that made for loads of prints going up everywhere we could find an empty wall. Here are some pics of the day. Barbara C's early work. More of Ellen's work alongside Barbara F's work. More of Joan's work.

Sunday, October 5, 2014. More fun with mono printing! I love teaching these classes with loads going on for all! This class was small and kinda quiet, though when we turned on Pink Martini you would have seen us all dancing while the paint flowed! Here are some action shots followed by a few examples of the work. Leaf prints captured most of us with the shapes and details. Both the Gelli plate and the homemade gelatin plate are good forms to work with impressions of leaves. Christie and Nina playing.

Saturday, July 5, 2014. Monoprinting / Gelli plate class preparations. It's been a long time since I've posted! The year was a quiet one with a time for allowing ideas to percolate. I'm so glad I gave myself that time, never pushing, the intent only to uncover and discover. Now I'm a complete convert, obsessed with pulling prints and continually finding surprises. There's something so satisfying about just pulling the prints, regardless of what happens to them afterwards. I consider it a painting tool as...
