Francisco de Paola Quintanilla. Syringe painting is a technique I first developed to create non-representational work that primarily examines color relationships. I mix the color I want using oil paint of an impasto (pasty) consistency and put it into a plastic syringe (no needle). I then extrude the paint to create narrow lines of color. Smaller portraits are painted on canvas. Larger portraits are painted on board to better support the weight of the paint.
