One of the books I read in my African Literature course is Flora Nwapa’s Efuru. At first I was doubtful as to how Efuru came to be regarded as a feminist novel. I resented the trite prose and the preponderance of dialogue. I assumed (and still think) then that this novel, given the over-simplistic prose style, will find it hard to get published today.
