How to easily set class-level defaults. I was reading Eloquent Ruby by Russ Olsen earlier this week, and got really excited when I came across a neat little way to create default values for classes. Russ uses the example of a Document class:. Rest of the class omitted. These few lines of code get you both a getter and setter for your newly created default font class method. I’m not sure why that was so exciting to me ha, but I figured it might excite someone else out there just the same.

Using borders for basic CSS debugging. Have you ever been in the middle of laying out a design in HTML/CSS, and wondered (maybe out loud, yea? Why the f is my div not showing up? Five minutes of grunting and self-hate later Oh, I didn’t set a height and width. Duh. I’ve come to adopt a simple tactic to avoid such mistakes. I simply throw on a colored border (or background color) on the div upon which I’m working.

I then wanted to pull a couple of random endorsements out for display on a particular testimonials page. I was ready to get down with some rand action, and then found out about Ruby’s sample method for arrays. User input in a rake task. Earlier this week I was pair programming with Obie, and we wanted to transfer a bunch of data from one service provider into another. As we talked through the problem, we started working through a rake task to get the job done. We eventually reached a point where it would’ve been helpful to be able to override some of the data that was provided by Provider A, so that we could ensure consistency amongst all the data. To which Obie replied, It’s all Ruby.

Söndag 24 mars 2013. Och så blev det lite påskfint. Ar ni påskpyntat än? Här är vi kanske ute i sista sekund om man jämför med alla fina bloggar som redan har påskfint i deras hem. Det fick räcka med lite påskris och fjädrar lite här och där, och Sickan har hjälpt till att så gräs till små duniga kycklingar. Får se om det hinner komma upp något grönt till påsk. Och så blev det lite frukost. På återseende. Kram. Torsdag 21 mars 2013. Och så var det lite prat om små gröna. Men härom dagen började jag tvivl...
