FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO. What is Grade 1? July 4, 2015. By The Cross-Eyed Pianist. Piano with Rebecca Singerman-Knight. I am constantly surprised by how hard Grade 1 is. I have blogged before about the pros and cons of piano students taking graded music exams ( click here. However, what really struck me by researching this topic further is quite how hard Grade 1 actually is! Keys of C, G, D and F major. Celebrate every pass, merit and distinction. The benefits of recording your piano lessons – FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO

FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO. The benefits of recording your piano lessons. May 23, 2015. May 23, 2015. By The Cross-Eyed Pianist. These days you can purchase a decent yet reasonably inexpensive handheld digital recorder or even use the voice memo function on your smart phone to achieve a useful recording, and this has the benefit of being a permanent record of your lesson. I revisited a Rachmaninov prelude today after not playing for it for 5 months. More on the benefits of recording lessons here.

Changing the Vocabulary – FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO

FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO. June 13, 2015. June 13, 2015. By The Cross-Eyed Pianist. This article is inspired by a recent discussion on the Piano Network UK Group on Facebook, to which I belong. A member posted the following:. I suppose we’ve all had that student who no matter what we do our say just will not practice. Here’s something that seems to have worked: change the word. Don’t ask them to aim at “practising”, ask them to aim at “progressing”. As teachers we know that. When a student grumbles t...

FRANCES WILSON'S PIANO STUDIO. June 28, 2015. June 28, 2015. By The Cross-Eyed Pianist. Simply swapping the parts around tests brain and fingers and will demonstrate whether a passage is truly known. Try incorporating some of these techniques into your practising – you will be surprised by the results. More on this subject here. Mirror Mirror on the Wall. The curse of the pushy parent. Fun and creative piano lessons in Whitby, North Yorkshire, to inspire a life-long love of music! Monthly Archives: March 2015. Jumping on the 40 pieces bandwagon! March 25, 2015. I’m super excited about this, because when I first read about it on Elissa Milne’s fab blog. I thought it was a great idea. I don’t think I’ve played 40 pieces in a year since I was a beginner (besides sight-reading accompaniments! I’m particularly delighted that almost all of my adult students have chosen to take part. Fun and creative piano lessons in Whitby, North Yorkshire, to inspire a life-long love of music! Two weeks of performances! Jumping on the 40 pieces bandwagon! March 22, 2015. I’ve been thinking about the last couple of weeks of performances. It was encouraging to get such good feedback from my first concert. What is not so encouraging is that people were surprised that a children’s piano concert was enjoyable and relaxed! And the thing that really stood out in the piano classes and others that I watched...

Fun and creative piano lessons in Whitby, North Yorkshire, to inspire a life-long love of music! If I had a penny for every time someone has told me that they regret either quitting instrumental lessons or not learning an instrument, I would be teaching my lessons on a Steinway by now! It seems like since I started piano lessons at the age of 5, people have been telling me their stories about how they used to learn to play the piano, or how they wish they had learned to play. I aim to make all of my pian...

Fun and creative piano lessons in Whitby, North Yorkshire, to inspire a life-long love of music! Jumping on the 40 pieces bandwagon! Things I learn from my students…part 3! May 8, 2015.
