Royal Society of Arts Competition [Ravensbourne 2009]. Cycle Tree makes use of empty spaces in urban areas by storing bikes ‘mid-air’. Its design minimises the threat of theft and damage by taking bikes above street level and away from reach. The metal structure supports eight branches which hold in total 16 bikes vertically. It addresses the need for a single multi-platform calendar application for Ravensbourne’s staff and students, allowing them to view its contents in the college or on the move. Events and information can be shared freely amongst users. Combining the old with the new, I photographed war planes as they hung from the roof of the Imperial war museum, and placed them against a back drop of modern day London.
