News from Nairobi: The days crawl as the months fly
http://pumpellys.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-days-crawl-as-months-fly.html
Finding Faith in the Battle. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. The days crawl as the months fly. There are days I feel like I have nothing to write about- the dullness of life answering e-mail and breaking up fights between over-active children. And then 2 months go by, and I can't wrap my head around how to talk about all that has happened in those 60 days, and I swear to never let so much time go without updating this blog again! In the past 2 months. In providing what we need to glorify His name! We were show...

Finding Faith in the Battle. Saturday, June 27, 2015. From the Mouth of Babes. I am task oriented. If you look the term up in the dictionary, I'm pretty sure my latest passport photo is there to sum it all up. It doesn't bode well for life in Africa, actually. Or life with 4 kids. 4 kids IN Africa almost puts me over the line into certifiable. Meaningful task- - not face the same mundane thing 17 minutes later. 1 turn children's hearts towards God. 2 foster gentleness and grace towards one another. I'm s...

Finding Faith in the Battle. Friday, June 27, 2014. A long run- part 2. So my last musings ended on a low note. Tired. Discouraged. Overwhelmed. Real. And I want to enumerate on three things that have come out of these past few weeks for me. One I've had an inkling of over the years, and the second I've known all along but I want to make sure to publicly confess it to make sure you don't miss it. The third is a new lesson altogether. Nobility in the struggle. There IS. Convinced we can turn this world up...

News from Nairobi: It was the worst of times, it was the best of times
http://pumpellys.blogspot.com/2015/04/it-was-worst-of-times-it-was-best-of.html
Finding Faith in the Battle. Tuesday, April 7, 2015. It was the worst of times, it was the best of times. Tragedy is raging around us, and we're not in the very middle of any of it. But we've got court-side seats to a lot of it. Flames of others' heartbreak and suffering seem to lick at my feet at all times. Medical crises. Home invasions. Mental breakdowns. Violence. Al-Shabab. Threats. Violence. More violence. On this tired camel. It was a great trip, but a lot of work and a lot of sweat. Literally.

Finding Faith in the Battle. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Top Ten Pet Peeves- I just have to let it out! Ok, I don't let myself linger on the negative very much, because every place has it's good things and it's challenges. And what can you do about the challenges, anyway? We do love being here, and no place is perfect. But I have to admit- as I'm cleaning African-mud messes or stuck in crazy traffic, I sometimes sooth myself by "writing" crabby blogs in my head. Is that strange? Buying my meat from men in...

News from Nairobi: March 2015
http://pumpellys.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Finding Faith in the Battle. Monday, March 23, 2015. Lessons Learned: Home-school Day 1. I'm a planner at heart, so we made our steps towards home-school a full 2 weeks before it was to begin. We had our son finish out the quarter, have a big good-bye party with his class, and then enjoy his Spring Break. It was a decision that I think we were right on. So we decided there was "recess" first, while I drank my coffee and gathered his school books, and "prayed up" for the day. As an English major at heart ...

News from Nairobi: Joining the Club
http://pumpellys.blogspot.com/2015/03/joining-club.html
Finding Faith in the Battle. Sunday, March 8, 2015. I have lots of friends who home-school; most out of necessity overseas in locations without other options, but many who do so out of conviction or preference or a combination of it all. Many of my friends thrive home-schooling, and some struggle. Home-school.Lots of reasons- lots of reactions- lots of opinions. Does that sound like I was putting limits on God? That's exactly what I was doing. So 3 years later, after being challenged by David Platt's.

News from Nairobi: November 2014
http://pumpellys.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Finding Faith in the Battle. Thursday, November 6, 2014. In our last prayer letter, we mentioned a tree planting ceremony we had for Dad. That was back in July, I think, and now it's November, so clearly I'm not doing great with my updates! But cancer happened. And God was with us through it. And may I never be so blind or hard-hearted to not learn something through suffering. God forbid I waste Dad's cancer. And so the dominoes of life fell at unexpected angles as they often do, triggering chain-reactio...
