Heidi: When you're not here
http://heidibillington.blogspot.com/2015/05/when-youre-not-here.html
Saturday, May 09, 2015. When you're not here. Another birthday has passed without you here and the loudness of your absence hurts my ears. As we laugh, eat cake and take pictures, I wish you were here holding my baby, making conversation in the kitchen, drinking coffee, reminiscing over our childhood, laughing until we cried. You are missed. You are loved. And we are waiting. But then there is me. Did you know about me? You are missed. You are loved. And we are waiting. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Heidi: October 2009

Sunday, October 25, 2009. Incomprehensible conception. You. Mystifying design of love. God, I look and I see your awesome extravagance in bursts of sunset painted across the sky. I breathe in the sweet scent of fresh renewal that comes following the spring rain. I taste and I savor the explosion of a multitude of flavors. God, I listen and I hear joyous, medicinal laughter. Bubbling up from young children’s voices. I touch and I feel deep comfort in the embrace of a loved one. And I know that you are God.

Monday, September 15, 2014. Partnering with Parents: Why it Matters. She slammed her daily planner shut and folded her hands “So she had a bad day at school did she? Was it just me or was her tone condescending? 8220;You know, girls will be girls.” “Maybe you should chalk this up as a way to teach your daughter some valuable life lessons.”. Incredulously I stared at her. The walk to the van was silent and all that ran through my head was “this is why partnering with parents is essential.”. What if this w...

Thursday, January 20, 2011. Yesterday our tickets were purchased for our return flight to Haiti, Feb 22nd. I have mixed feelings. There is a part of me that is excited to return, this time to see the Area Development Project we have worked with all year, to meet the people-finally! Wednesday, January 12, 2011. It was unfair, it was impossible. Help had come for me. I must leave now, I must return to my family; my husband, my own baby girls. I had to look away. But tonight, I imagine a different picture.

Debrief and strategy meeting at WV Headquarters. Supper at Karibe hotel restaurant. Ah, nothing like a proper Hinche farewell with no running water this morning. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. All in a Christmas bulb. New Years Eve is tomorrow, the kids are finally asleep, Christmas lights twinkling and I'm feeling reflective. I love to be reflective -odd duck that I am- perhaps it's my newly acquired old age, my old soul, or just the quiet of a winter's evening as a difficult year wraps up-but regardless I'm feeling reflective. Tuesday, May 27, 2014. You look so beautiful like that". Monday morning I was amazed at how well everything went. I had the presence of mind not to try for a shower before dropping Zoë off to school and I think this helped-she was even there 5 minutes early! But it was while buckling Nathaniel in his car seat that Zoë said something that's made me stop and think, a lot. (yup, that's two words *wink). She said, "Mom, you look so beautiful like that.". I stopped and asked "What? Monday morning, stinky and ...
