Free at the Bridge Table: Unlucky? Yes!
http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2007/10/unlucky-yes.html
Free at the Bridge Table. Adventures at the bridge table, analyses of hands, advice on bidding systems,. Tuesday, October 23, 2007. The new competition season has started 4 weeks ago. At this moment we're not scoring the way we would like to. Most of the time we all play well, but "luck" is not on our side! Many imps are lost because of extremely bad splits (5-0 trump splits for example), or opponents playing 1 ♠. With 24HCP while our teammates go -2 in 3NT. The following hand is a perfect example.
Free at the Bridge Table: "Either-Or" squeeze (2)
http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2009/09/either-or-squeeze-2.html
Free at the Bridge Table. Adventures at the bridge table, analyses of hands, advice on bidding systems,. Saturday, September 19, 2009. Here another Either-Or squeeze:. 1NT was semi forcing; 2 ♣. Gazzilli; ♦. This wasn't a great auction. I was sitting South and had a problem when partner showed. I decided to just go for 3 ♥. And see what happens (this is less than invite, otherwise I would've started with 2 ♥. Instead of 1NT). With the North hand I'd have rebid 3 ♣. Anyway, we got to a playable contract.
Free at the Bridge Table: August 2009
http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Free at the Bridge Table. Adventures at the bridge table, analyses of hands, advice on bidding systems,. Saturday, August 08, 2009. I haven't posted anything on Gazzilli before. It's one of my favorite conventions which occurs when the auction starts 1M-1NT or 1 ♥. It's a very simple convention with big advantages, few disadvantages, and it comes up frequently. A 2 ♣. Rebid from opener is a 2-way bid, showing one of 2 hand types:. 16 HCP, any distribution. Responder has only 1 strong response: 2 ♦. Will ...
Free at the Bridge Table: My luckiest hand ever
http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2009/09/my-luckiest-hand-ever.html
Free at the Bridge Table. Adventures at the bridge table, analyses of hands, advice on bidding systems,. Sunday, September 27, 2009. My luckiest hand ever. Last week I encountered a hand which is probably the luckiest hand I'll ever encounter. It was the first hand of a club evening, and lady Luck clearly had choosen sides. This was my hand:. LHO started the auction:. Dbl - pass - 4 ♥. Pass - 4 ♠. Is trumps we play Kickback RKC (4 ♠. Showing 2 keycards without ♥. Q Now partner bid 5 ♠. Pass - 4 ♠. 2 LHO ...
Free at the Bridge Table: Defeating an unbeatable contract
http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2009/12/defeating-unbeatable-contract.html
Free at the Bridge Table. Adventures at the bridge table, analyses of hands, advice on bidding systems,. Tuesday, December 29, 2009. Defeating an unbeatable contract. This is a story I got from a friend of mine, Alon Amsel. You hold the following hand:. LHO starts the auction:. Pass - 1 ♥. 1NT* - pass - 2 ♥. 1NT shows exactly 4 ♣. Alon thought as follows:. Declarer and I have 11 ♥. S combined, which suggests dummy is short and probably has 3 ♠. S Also declarer's HCPs are all in ♥. Q This is the full hand:.

Gerben's Bridge Blog: November 2005
http://gerbenbridge.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 08, 2005. ParadoX bids - Transfer's big brother. If you like transfers you will just love ParadoX bids. This term had been around unconciously for a long time but was introduced by Chris Ryall. After partner has made a bid that is either this or that, usually a transfer, these bids apply. Let's see from a simple example what this means: the super-accept after 1NT transfer. 1NT p 2 * p 2 *. NF with or forcing with. Pass if you have the NF variation. 1NT p 2 * p 3 *. 1NT (2 ) 2NT* p 3 *.

Monday, January 30, 2006. NT ranges 2 - the weak NTs. I know some people would be interested to know more about opening weak NTs. I think it is a winner if you treat it properly. That's a big if! You need to be well-prepared for the part score battles that will take place. In a strong NT system, the weak NT hand type opens and then sits back to see if something good happens. The strong NT hand opens 1NT and does the same. Not so in a weak NT system! Let's look at some different ranges. You can use your f...
Gerben's Bridge Blog: Underleading an Ace
http://gerbenbridge.blogspot.com/2006/09/underleading-ace.html
Wednesday, September 27, 2006. So when do you underlead an Ace in a trump contract? The first rule you learn is: Never! Here are some things that could go wrong:. An opponent could win a trick with the King he would otherwise not get. Even if partner has the King, this might not gain a trick. Partner has the King and it would gain a trick, if only he knew to put it in. He expects declarer to have the Ace and will play accordingly! Against a slam with a void. 1♥) 2♠ (3♥) 3♠. 6♥) All Pass. 4♥ - Pass. Now i...
Gerben's Bridge Blog: December 2005
http://gerbenbridge.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 12, 2005. Your sohl or mine? 2NT has never been a popular contract, and rightly so. In many situations it does not pay to play 2NT as natural. Not because a hand that would want to bid it is not possible, but because there are better uses. Some examples are:. 1NT (2♥) 2NT. 2♥) Double (Pass) 2NT. 1♣ 1♠ 2♥ 2NT. Good things: You can also invite in suits lower than opponents except ♣ (opener will decline the transfer with a useful hand), and since you show a good hand, opener can get i...
Franco's Bridge Blog: April 2011
http://fmbbridge.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Great minds think about ideas. Warped minds think about bridge hands. Monday, April 11, 2011. From a KO match. 4 led, RHO plays the Ace and another diamond. Say you try the Jack and it loses to the Queen, a 3rd diamond coming back. Now what? Hearts are not 5-0. RHO has apparently bid a bit crazily, and must have the ♠KQ and the ♣A, and probably the ♣Q. So, run hearts as RHO pitches 3 low spades and 2 low clubs to get to this 4 card ending:. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Coup For You.

Great minds think about ideas. Warped minds think about bridge hands. Wednesday, August 24, 2011. GIB shows how it's done. BBO's robot bridge player, GIB, did nicely on this hand:. 9824; J 10 5 3. 9827; 10 5 4 3. 9824; A K Q 7 4. 9824; 9 2. 9827; A J 7 6 2. 9824; 8 6. 9827; K Q 9 8. After an uncontested auction to 3N, West led a top spade and cashed 2 more (heart shakes), then switched to a diamond. Next declarer played ♣K which was ducked. Q to cash ♠J, what are you going to pitch? Links to this post.
