Bob and Elaine's journey through the Caribbean. Home for us now is the “Mar Azul” (Spanish for “blue seas”), a 1985 Defever 44 Offshore Cruiser. We bought her in 2009, with the goal of fixing her up for future retirement, liveaboard and travels. Here are some basic statistics:. Beam (width): 15 feet. Draft (depth): 5 feet. Speed: typically 7 knots (about 8 mph) max. Sleeping quarters: 2 cabins – 1 queen berth, 1 double v-berth. Heads (bathrooms): 2, one with a small shower. Engines: Twin Lehmans, 240 hp.
