In the spring of 2011 we decided to complete our own version of the popular coast to coast route but rather than walking we would take the Discovery and drive as many green lanes as we could on the way. A short but steep climb on part of the touchstone trail at Bamford. Farmland track from Kniveton to Tissington Ford. Evidence of an old Roman Road on the drive down Goth Cow Lane. The 4 mile byway from Priestcliffe. To Upperdale. An enjoyable drive on unsurfaced tracks across High Dale with views across Monsal Dale. Little used Sough Lane is part of the Limestone Way. North York Moors National Park. An easy drive across Glaisdale Moor on the Old Whitby Road. A rutted climb from the bottom of Limber Hill. The very charming Yoadwath Ford. Danby Low Moor and the road to Lealholm. A North York Moors Railway station at Grosmont. With restored steam trains, a river crossing and 3 fords. At the very western boundary of the North York Moors Ings Lane. Is little more than a muddy track across the fields with Sutton Bank and the White Horse of Kilburn in the background.
