I cherished those old ladies who gave me a dollar when I came home for vacations from college. I knew what that dollar meant to them- it meant that they wanted to make sure that I have a life different from the one they had. They did not know about my other America. I grieve for those folks who gave me a dollar. I grieve for my children and grandchildren.

Monday, February 2, 2015. Our word today was friend, and I was surprised that I wrote more than I usually write on the words, so I thought I would share it here:. People actually believe that FB friends, are really friends- I have to remember, that in many ways, FB is not real ( excluding this group, and others I like) . I don't even like to hear people say, I don't have friends, I have associates- what in the heck does that mean? You are either a friend, or you are just someone I know.

Saturday, July 9, 2016. I found it interesting that a politician stated, during this turbulent week, " 'If you are a normal White American . you don’t understand being Black in America." Perhaps he thought those were powerful "liberal" words, but only one word stood out for me! What is a NORMAL white person? Is it someone who can walk into a store, and not be followed? Is it someone who is treated differently, no matter where they may be? Is it someone who refuses to see white privilege for what it is?

It reminds me of when our church in Miami “changed” and mother began attending a “break out” church with very young minister. Just yesterday, someone yelled out to a group of seniors “I hope I look that good when I am y’all’s age. For some reason, that just annoyed me. Just as it is more important to know what is INside of a particular “CUP,” it is also important to look beyond flags. Some have talked about France, the Colonialist, but believe me, if we looked at Colonialists and Imperialists, we would really cover our faces with flags.
