Fried Noodles

Sunday, December 23, 2007. I have to admit I got really lazy with this blog, and I’m not sure why. I think there was just so much going on that I didn’t have time to process and write about all the stuff that was going on. For a beach holiday and I was all over. Nearly everyday (a city I grew to love so much). Heading home made me really sad and I knew I’d miss the excitement, the people (especially the women) and the weather. Compared to Upstate New York. Still, as we drove from. Was a hit here. In a ha...

Fried Noodles: Island Life

http://friednoodles.blogspot.com/2007/10/island-life.html

The King and I. Wednesday, October 10, 2007. Update: I now have pictures of the island. We think the guy that set up our boat trip to Ko Si Chang was a gangster. When we arrived at the pier at about 10:00 pm, the last ferry had left and we were desperate to make it to the island that night. Big Justin refused to even consider staying on the mainland for the night. The gangster, with unkempt hair and a pompous authority, offered us a ride for 2,000 baht, or 60 dollars. They looked terrified of him. Ko Si ...

Fried Noodles: Last Oswegonian Column

http://friednoodles.blogspot.com/2007/11/last-oswegonian-column.html

Top of the World. Saturday, November 10, 2007. The Oswegonian, my campus paper, is going on break until next semester. Here's the last column I wrote for them. There’s a reason why Thai taxi drivers have shrines on their dashboards. The Buddha figurines and lotus flowers are believed to protect against the drivers’ death-defying maneuvers. Two lane highways are turned into three due to chaotic stream of aggressive traffic. It seems like The Fast and the Furious. Was a hit here. Don’t stop at his &#...

Friday, September 28, 2007. Tuesday was my birthday (22 years old), and it was the first one I’ve ever spent abroad. Wadleigh took me out to eat at the reasonably nice restaurant up the street. That’s where the drama unfolded. Wadleigh was full already, so he ordered some fried rice, which is usually not enormous in size. Is that e...

Fried Noodles: My Oswegonian Column

Wednesday, September 26, 2007. To keep my writing sharp, I'm writing a column for The Oswegonian, the campus paper at SUNY Oswego. Here's my first piece, which was published last Friday. Some of the themes are stuff I already touched on, but hopefully you'll find some new things interesting. This semester can be considered a resort.

Four Months in Thailand: Climbing Down the Mountain...

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/11/climbing-down-mountain.html

Saturday, November 3, 2007. Climbing Down the Mountain. One thing Anthony and I noticed as we walked through the village was the plethora of chickens. Everywhere, chickens roamed freely. No wonder bird flu is spreading so easily in this region, half of the kids went barefoot, presumably walking around with bird shit all over their feet. Your comment about the dinosaur chickens made me laugh out loud. hehe. November 8, 2007 at 7:54 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Four Months in Thailand: Adventures on Ko Sichang

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/10/adventures-on-ko-sichang.html

Monday, October 8, 2007. Adventures on Ko Sichang. Anthony and I decided that it was time to take a break from our busy coursework – right now, I’m listening to my iPod, Anthony is playing his DS, and our most taxing decision is whether or not to watch a movie tonight or an episode of 24 – and head to an island for a weekend of relaxation. We decided to take a break from big islands like Ko Chang, where we’d previously gone, and head to a small island a bit closer to Bangkok. After many unnecessary stops...

Four Months in Thailand: WAKE UP

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/11/wake-up.html

Monday, November 5, 2007. We used my leg injury as an excuse to get on the plane before the long line of people that had been standing waiting before us. I finally got some of the sleep my body so desperately craved. I got off the airport and after a long hobble, we got a taxi. I slept through the ride in an effort to not throw up in it, but mostly, it was a semi-conscious blur. And thus, this concludes my journey to Chang Mai. I'm so sorry those painkillers did that to you. I'm glad you're alright!

Four Months in Thailand: Random Observations on the Land of the Thai

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/11/random-observations-on-land-of-thai.html

Friday, November 16, 2007. Random Observations on the Land of the Thai. Note: The opinions expressed in this blog are mostly based on casual observation and are probably stereotypes that are not accurately reflective of the Thai people. Never the less, the observations have been made. I’ve been in Thailand for some time now and I’ve found some thoughts about Thailand drifting in my head, so I thought I’d write them down. No matter how much Thai you speak, every Thai person thinks they can sucker you:.

Four Months in Thailand: Anthony and I decided this week to head up north to Chang Mai...

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/11/anthony-and-i-decided-this-week-to-head.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Anthony and I decided this week to head up north to Chang Mai. At me After that, I sprinted away in a drunken, terrified haste. Once we were all-together, Anthony and I headed into the Tiger, a bar near our hotel. Darts, a live band, and pool seemed like a nice way to spend a Wednesday night. I proceeded to drink my third bottle of Beer Chang on the evening. It only takes 2 to get me drunk, so by this point, I was DRUNK. What are you doing taking pictures of hookers?

Four Months in Thailand: August 2007

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 31, 2007. So, this is my blog to chronicle my experiences while studying abroad in Thailand for the next four months of my life. I have other blogs, but I figure this is easier to access and should hopefully be free of drama, just telling everyone that takes a second to actually check it a little bit about what I'm doing on the other side of the planet. Just a brief introduction to the whole thing:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Four Months in Thailand: And so, the trek begins...

http://mwinthailand.blogspot.com/2007/11/and-so-trek-begins.html

Friday, November 2, 2007. And so, the trek begins. Trekking was quite the unexpected adventure. To say that Anthony and I were unprepared is an understatement. Essentially, we both expected an easy, touristy trek through some trees and then a campout at a village - the kind of stuff you find back in the States. Maybe some long walks, but nothing arduous. Chang Mai sounds like a very pretty place. I can't wait to see pictures! November 6, 2007 at 10:46 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

I did hear somewhere that the literal meaning of the phrase “Tashreef” is one’s “Hind part” or what is more dedicatedly called the “Butt”. In that case, “Tashreef Rakhiye”,should mean please place your Butt! A striking similarity between the American English and Urdu goes something like this. Now thats some similarity! January 25, 2010.
