Feathers, Fur & The Occasional Fang: Extreme Makeover: Cat Edition
http://friendlyfeathers.blogspot.com/2012/07/extreme-makeover-cat-edition_27.html
Friday, July 27, 2012. Extreme Makeover: Cat Edition. These days, I do cat photos almost every time I go to the shelter. I never post them since this is a small animal blog, but this week I've done about 40 different cats and I had to post some. Since it's kitten season, we are inundated with kittens of all ages, plus the usual suspects - teenagers, long-termers, adults, strays. So here are some of the more recent 'before's and 'after's:. I love this guy! Blaze is an incredible sweetheart. He's one o...
Feathers, Fur & The Occasional Fang: Walking on Sunshine
http://friendlyfeathers.blogspot.com/2012/07/walking-on-sunshine.html
Tuesday, July 10, 2012. I love statutory holidays at the shelter, because there are no visitors to distract you from the animals. It's always a nice opportunity to spend quality time with the latest inmates, getting to know them and letting them have extra attention or exercise. I spent Canada Day there, and since it was such a lovely day outside, I took the rabbits out on to the grass. Beatrix, on the other hand, decided to take full advantage of her time outside. She is such a quirky rabbit. I ...My ol...
Feathers, Fur & The Occasional Fang: Sudden
http://friendlyfeathers.blogspot.com/2013/04/sudden.html
Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Because of this lack of understanding, most young rabbits that arrive at the shelter are skinny. People don't realize they need Alfalfa hay when very young, or that they need more food and more variety in order to develop properly. Sometimes, young surrenders are very. Skinny, and because of this, they are a little lethargic. Typically we feed them properly and they perk up in a week. Before she got back, Nimbus began to have some sort of fit, stumbling into the walls and crashing...
Feathers, Fur & The Occasional Fang: The Turn-Around
http://friendlyfeathers.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-turn-around.html
Thursday, July 19, 2012. We've had a slew of adoptions lately! After a very slow couple of months, it's been a whirlwind of good news over the last couple of weeks. First, Sir Nigel. Was adopted to Pawsitively Pets, a kid's camp where he will serve in an educational role, teaching kids how to properly care for and handle chinchillas. He has a nice three-storey cage and will be treated very well. Then a few days later, Leonard. The day after Leonard went, we had three. Were adopted - together! Were sent t...

Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Is there anyone still reading this? If so, kudos to you! It's been pretty apparent that this blog has mostly been abandoned at this point. It makes me a little sad - I ran this thing for almost 4 years! Admittedly it was sporadic at times, but still. We've received updates, donations and adoptions through this blog, so thank you to everyone who ever read and offered support! You can now find out about TAS South's small animals at:. In summary: thank you everyone! I loved reading...

Foster Tails - Failure is Always an Option: July 2011
http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 14, 2011. Project Jessie first encountered Pushkin in the spring of 1995. He was unnamed, abandoned, and sitting in a small cage at a shelter. There were 8 carriers in the van and a vet willing to spay or neuter 6 cats that week. He started to purr and I knew who I was going to foster! Thank you Project Jessie and DVC for giving Pushkin such a special life. Saturday, July 9, 2011. Still loving her . Friday, July 1, 2011. Will she stay or will she go? If she stays there will be trouble .
Foster Tails - Failure is Always an Option: I swore
http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2012/05/i-swore.html
Wednesday, May 2, 2012. I wasn't fostering kittens directly here this spring . Managing foster homes and crisis management, over-nighting kittens on their way to foster homes- that seemed to be plenty! You tell me how me how I could say no to this face. I was picking up another cat when this tiny mite arrived. I simply could not leave him. He's noisy, super friendly and very cute. The newest adult foster Jeremiah meeting the mighty mite. Very cute! http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 16, 2011. 48 more hours to love Quiz then she's off to her forever home. A long long time spent loving this little one . she's had a good start to life and is just the nicest puppy so I'm optimistic all will be right in her world . and I certainly trust that she'll come back if she isn't a good fit. Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Sure it's Cheesie . But that's her name :). RP (the dog a Project Jessie alumni) loves hamsters and is just so thrilled to have a hammie buddy. Full Hearts Full Farm.
Foster Tails - Failure is Always an Option: Hard to imagine ...
http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2012/04/hard-to-imagine.html
Monday, April 23, 2012. Hard to imagine . We have no palliative fosters at the moment - but it's true. Pi died today, peacefully and with dignity at home which was lovely but we are sad to see another gentleman go. Kidney failure at least doesn't seem to painful. The oldest dog here is Brody at nearly 12. The oldest cat is Julia at 13. I'm sure it won't last long but it seems strange. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Foster Tails - Failure is Always an Option: October 2011
http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 29, 2011. Maybe just the cutest thing ever . Ali cat has a new friend (and a healed nose). Little Lizzie is only about 20 days old and a very very sad orphan. She had a couple of scary days - and she may again. But for right now she's a pretty happy little baby. All curled up with her babysitter! For a non nursing cat Ali is amazingly tolerant. And provides a good source of heat for the baby too! Tuesday, October 11, 2011. In love all over again. A new foster baby is here. Hence three b...
Foster Tails - Failure is Always an Option: Less and More
http://cattythings.blogspot.com/2014/02/less-and-more.html
Saturday, February 8, 2014. In a cost/benefit analysis of fostering the benefits always outweigh the costs. ALWAYS. But, and you knew there had to be a but, there are many costs to fostering. It would be unfair to ignore them. Costs come in many forms, and many people beyond the person on the foster contract pays the cost. I would be remiss if I didn't consider the financial costs. Gas to drive foster animals to their forever homes, to to the shelter/rescue to pick up supplies, to adoption events, to...

June 23, 2010. Canadians for the Ethical Treatment of Food Animals. Feathers Fur and the Occasional Fang. AIC is going to lay low over the summer and come back revamped by fall. Here are two unmitigated downers to mull over in the meantime. On Friday, Manitou RCMP went to the property in the RM of Lorne. Officers discovered as many as 500 dead pigs, along with about 160 that were so sick that they had to be put down. Many of the animals were found living without proper food, water or ventilation. Create ...
