Friends Of Saint George's. Saint George’s Turret Clock was first starred by a 92-year-old parishioner on 1st January 1904. It has had many repairs over the years, including the clock face last being re-gilded 60 years ago in 1955. The clock chamber bell is inscribed 1830 and is believed to have been saved from the first Saint George’s Church which was demolished in 1893 to make way for the present building. The bell is 24 inches in diameter and weighs 3cwt. Cast by John Rudhall at Gloucester in 1830.
