Early History of St. John the Baptist Church, Tunstall. There was almost certainly a church in Tunstall before the Norman conquest, although a church is not mentioned in Doomsday, but nothing of it now remains. The oldest part of the present building is the Chancel, which was rebuilt about 1250, and the nave about 100 years later. The Friends of Tunstall Church is a registered charity with the aim of raising funds to preserve the beautiful St. John the Baptist church set in the Kent village of Tunstall. Over the past fifteen years of the Friends existence almost 42,000 have been raised and donated to the church for necessary works to the benefit of the local community. The Friends raises monies by holding various events, mainly in the Tunstall Village Hall, that provide interest and entertainment to the local community.

Some other major work was carried out in the late 1990’s, breakdown of the payments for work is difficult as the friends donations were made to the church fabric fund, and not shown on a per project basis. These projects included the removal of the felt roof covering on the north isle and installing a Non Ferrous Metal covering. Work carried out by Marshott Ltd. Completed in 1997. Supporting street children in Nairobi. Friends of Tumaini is a UK registered charity (number 1126352. Which supports a children’s home in Nairobi, Kenya. The home, “Nyumba Ya Tumaini” (house of hope) provides a safe home for boys previously living on the streets in Nairobi. They have a warm, dry home; nourishing food; health-care; and all attend school. Eighteen boys aged between 12 and 18 currently live at Nyumba Ya Tumaini. The difference it makes is just incredible.
