https://21cstraw.wordpress.com/2016/07/18/finish-plaster
Building a modern straw bale home. All the essential plastering tools. We’ve been trying to get as flat and as smooth a finish as reasonably possible. We’re still not at the level of a drywall finish, but not bad for an amateur. Wet wall in the process of being smoothed. The key to getting a good finish has been working the plaster at the right moisture content as it dries to get it when it’s firm, but still movable without the shoulders taking too much of a hit. Building a modern straw bale home. Weatherboards and T&G soffits. Another job on the outside was putting in the soffits and weatherboards eitherside of the clerestory windows. We’ve used macrocarpa for the soffits, which has enough natural durability to use in this location without treatment. Building a modern straw bale home. Due to the variable nature of the materials we’re using in our plasters – particularly the clay which has come from our house site – we need to do tests on various recipies to get the optimum mix. Testing is pretty straightforward, we make up plasters of different mixes, put them up on the wall/floor and then once they’ve dried get stuck in with a screwdriver and do some destructive testing. Building a modern straw bale home. Grey and black water systems. In the wastewater department we’ve decided to keep the grey and black water separate coming out of the house (blackwater being that which flushes out of the toilets, and the rest being grey water). This gives us more options down the track for treating and using the two different streams for composting, irrigation etc. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. April 17, 2016.
