Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Film Studies 192A: Week 5. Monday, April 28, 2008. That feeling" right now feels good and it kind of only comes when I am alone, and sadly, when I am feeling a little vulnerable. It is when I am quiet and can clearly remember how these ideas come to me and why I find them special enough to initiate. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Film Studies 192A: Week 4. Thursday, April 24, 2008. Wednesday, April 23, 2008. IVDV and Reel Loud. I'm part of planning TWO. Submission date: May 9th. Respons...

Chicago Theater: In the Next Room (or the vibrator play) - Highly Recommended
http://windycitytheater.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-next-room-or-vibrator-play-highly.html
A Maggid and theater maven's view of the wealth of theatrical events in Chicago. Sunday, September 11, 2011. In the Next Room (or the vibrator play) - Highly Recommended. Sarah Ruhl's 2009 Tony-nominated play receives a top-shelf treatment by the actors and staff of the Victory Gardens Theatre. Directed by VG veteran Sandy Shinner. Gives us enough of a taste of each that we know we have shared a new intimacy with those who face those struggles. The nearly-mandatory excoriation of critics, and an interest...

Chicago Theater: August 2011
http://windycitytheater.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
A Maggid and theater maven's view of the wealth of theatrical events in Chicago. Sunday, August 21, 2011. This was not the play I expected, and I'm still not sure how I feel about that. One thing I can say for certain is that I wish I had seen it with friends so we could debrief afterwards. For that reason it lingers in "Recommended" land, but clearly tottering between "Highly Recommended" and "Somewhat Recommended.". By Simon Stephen is mounted with great skill by the Steep Theatre Company. The staging ...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. The "To See" List: April. At Pacific Theatre. The second reason is that I'm going away for a week to visit my parents, so I won't be able to see anything during that time (there is nothing playing at their local community theatre! That said, here is my list of shows I want to and/or am planning to see in April. The list will likely evolve as I hear of additional shows and/or run into scheduling conflicts:. Studies In Motion: The Hauntings of Eadweard Muybridge. Tags: Shows to See.

Chicago Theater: July 2011
http://windycitytheater.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
A Maggid and theater maven's view of the wealth of theatrical events in Chicago. Sunday, July 17, 2011. A Beautiful Spell - Recommended. It had to happen. I managed to see two plays - penned by different playwrights, performed by different actors and produced in different venues - that bear such a strong resemblance to each other that comparisons are, for me, nearly impossible to avoid. Therefore, I'll postpone the comparison until the end of this entry. A Beautiful Spell,. So, why only "Recommended?

Chicago Theater: May 2011
http://windycitytheater.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
A Maggid and theater maven's view of the wealth of theatrical events in Chicago. Monday, May 30, 2011. Working at the Broadway Playhouse: Highly Recommended. While I had a good idea about the broad lines of this play before attending, I was unprepared for its emotional depth. To call it a celebration of the "working man" (sic) is correct - but wholly inadequate. Through the words collected by Studs Terkel. Sunday, May 15, 2011. Woyzeck at the Chopin Theatre: Recommended. Is a play by Georg Büchner that i...

Chicago Theater: Strangers and Romance - Highly Recommended
http://windycitytheater.blogspot.com/2011/09/strangers-and-romance-highly.html
A Maggid and theater maven's view of the wealth of theatrical events in Chicago. Saturday, September 3, 2011. Strangers and Romance - Highly Recommended. These two one-act plays by Barbara Lhota are produced at the Trap Door Theatre. So, take the time to travel down a narrow alley through a back door into some of the more hidden, but far from uncommon, corners of relationships. It will be an evening well worth the price of admission. Location: 1655 W Cortland St, Chicago, IL 60622, USA.

Lois Backstage: The Winds & Woes of Outdoor Theatre
http://loisinlalaland.blogspot.com/2009/07/winds-woes-of-outdoor-theatre.html
Friday, July 24, 2009. The Winds and Woes of Outdoor Theatre. Yesterday started out as a normal rehearsal day: Wake up, check the weather. And then head to site for the day. The forecast included a 30% chance of thundershowers, but with light winds and almost no rain, so we pushed forward. About 2 hours into rehearsal the winds began gusting - we're estimating about 80 km/hr and we began to scramble to get the site secured so it wouldn't get wrecked. The wind did not want to stop there though! The winds ...
