https://fromuphere.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/ode-to-oatmeal
From Up Here – Travel Tales. Frugal Foods – Ode to Oatmeal. November 20, 2011. I’ve started with Breakfast. We all know it is the ‘most important meal of the day’ and it can also be the cheapest. I’m going to start with my ‘Ode to Oatmeal’. I’ve lost half of you right now you hate oatmeal or you think you hate it, but it might deserve a second chance. First of all, it is fast. My recipe for my microwave is 1 min and 20 sec. 1/3 cup oatmeal in a microwave safe bowl. 1/3 1/6 cup water. Tiniest pinch of salt.

From Up Here – Travel Tales. Frugal Food – Gingerbread Men. December 10, 2011. Just like last year I spent a good hour searching on the internet and through my recipe clippings. Why didn’t I just post it in my blog after I found it last year? I don’t know but now the search for the recipe is part of the tradition so I’m not going to post it here. Call me crazy. I will give myself a hint for next year (C.L.R.B.). Here’s the breakdown for one batch of dough:. Brown Sugar .53. We’ll use two batches tomorrow...
Christmas Tradition #8 | From Up Here - Travel Tales

From Up Here – Travel Tales. December 25, 2010. I know you think I forgot about you but I didn’t I just got a bit busy. Thanks for waiting! Can you think of all the songs that reference it? Here are a few:. Jingle Bells: Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh (our sleigh had two horses, Tom and Toby). Sleigh Ride: Just here those sleigh bells jingling, ring, ting, tingling too. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas: ‘…and sleigh bells in the snow’. As we finished our trip and pulled into the ya...

https://fromuphere.wordpress.com/2010/12/17/christmas-tradition-7
From Up Here – Travel Tales. December 17, 2010. I don’t know if this is a tradition or a chore. I’m listening to you. Watching ‘Miracle on 34th Street’, drinking eggnog and eating gingerbread while I wrap. I remember going to Eaton’s department store after Christmas to buy our wrapping paper for the next year. I remember mom teaching us how to wrap a present. The secret of measuring and how to fold the corners. I remember, ‘Save the wrapping paper! So now the big debate: Wrapped Parcel or Gift Bag. Garlic In The Soul: Garlic 101
http://garlicinthesoul.blogspot.com/2011/12/garlic-101_30.html
Garlic In The Soul. Friday, December 30, 2011. Unknown to most North Americans, there are hundreds of garlic cultivars. The reason most of us don’t know this is because commercial producers (the majority of which come from China and California) all grow the same type. The kind we’ve been buying from our grocery stores is of the Artichoke variety. These are commonly called softneck garlic as they don’t produce a flower stalk. Hardneck garlic gets its name from the stiff flower stalks of the plants. Th...
Garlic In The Soul: The Great Pumpkin
http://garlicinthesoul.blogspot.com/2011/03/great-pumpkin.html
Garlic In The Soul. Saturday, March 5, 2011. So far I’ve made pumpkin soup, loaf, muffins and pie. I’ve put chunks of it into stews, pasta, risotto, roasted it and even mashed it! Last night it was freezing cold here, and craving comfort food as well as needing to use up the pumpkins we have left, I decided to try something new. Harry was a little alarmed by the pumpkin dumplings on his plate, but by the time he’d finished them he said, “Different … but pretty darn good! 15 cups cups flour. First make th...
Garlic In The Soul: Do You Know Where Your Food Comes From?
http://garlicinthesoul.blogspot.com/2011/04/do-you-know-where-your-food-comes-from.html
Garlic In The Soul. Sunday, April 3, 2011. Do You Know Where Your Food Comes From? Do you ever wonder where the food you buy comes from? I never used to, when I lived in the city. And I still don’t always check. It’s easy for me to forget about, because I only recently became enlightened. The majority of people don’t think about it. They just buy what they need, whenever they want. Food comes from the grocery store, butchers, bakeries, specialty shops … right? Our Canadian farmers are increasingly unable...

Garlic In The Soul. Monday, April 9, 2012. Five Tips on Growing Great Garlic. The good thing is, we have some great tricks we use to ensure the best survival rate possible. Garlic should have started sprouting before winter sets in, so the plant gets established. Although we didn’t see any sprouts till about a month ago, they’re growing like mad now that it’s warming up. We were getting a little worried, but I think we’re safe. Whew! Plant the Biggest Cloves. The scape is the garlic bulb’s flower s...
