Tuesday, July 21, 2009. A friend's dog bloated yesterday, and was put to sleep. So what you say, I get boated all the time. Well in dogs "bloat" is a common name for "Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus" ("GDV"). It happens when a dog has too much air in the stomach- similar to colic in horses http:/ www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm.
