Fuggled: Let The Session Commence!
http://www.fuggled.net/2015/06/let-session-commence.html
Drink Responsibly, Don't Spill. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Let The Session Commence! A couple of weeks ago I spent a Friday morning at Three Notch'd doing the ceremonial dumping of hops, the slightly more labour intensive digging out of a mash tun, and the ever pleasant ritual of watching the runnings of a beautiful copper wort flowing from the mash tun to the kettle. Or to put it more simply, brewing Session 42. This Thursday brings the best part of brewing a beer to town, drinking the stuff! VeggieDag Thu...

http://www.fuggled.net/2015/08/guest-post-summer-nights-drinking-with.html
Drink Responsibly, Don't Spill. Thursday, August 6, 2015. Guest Post: Summer Nights Drinking with Steady Flames. It's been a while since I had a guest post on Fuggled, and we have a returning writer here today, Renée Francoeur. Rather than witter on myself, here's Renée. 8220;I hope it’s been established I’d be the one to survive in the wild,” Cristina (the one with the lily pad flower in her hair) said, pushing us to shore with her rather impressive twig. Sabrina and I dipped our hands further and attem...
Fuggled: The Session 99 - Homebrew American Mild
http://www.fuggled.net/2015/05/the-session-99-homebrew-american-mild.html
Drink Responsibly, Don't Spill. Friday, May 1, 2015. The Session 99 - Homebrew American Mild. This month's Session is hosted by, well, me! My theme for this month is around 'localising mild', tying in with the American Mild Month. Project that I started and that kicks off today, with 46 breweries around the US committed to having mild available for May. The beer is tentatively called 'Mild Mannered Merican' and is as follows:. 66% US 2 Row Pale malt. 10 IBU Calypso hops for 60 minutes. Beer and Pub Pics.
Fuggled: The Session #99 - Roundup
http://www.fuggled.net/2015/05/the-session-99-roundup.html
Drink Responsibly, Don't Spill. Saturday, May 9, 2015. The Session #99 - Roundup. Well, that was the Session that was, and this is the round up that is. The theme for Session #99 was on localising mild, and we got an interesting array of responses. Over in Ireland, The Beer Nut. Got 'historically pedantic' and pointed out that most modern beer would be considered 'mild' due to the focus on freshness. Staying in Ireland, The Drunken Destrier. Meanwhile, my good friend Reuben of The Tale of the Ale. Stan H...

Saturday, January 10, 2015. What is (not "was") the difference between a stout and a porter? Roast barley, earlier. A while ago the mighty zythophile was able to clarify. Historically, to say roast barley is a differentiator between porter and stout is wrong. Of course, "historically" there's a great deal of truth in that. Naturally, it depends what you mean by "historically", but we'll let that stand. But what about non-historically? Or, as we might say, " now. Let's have a quick look. Rather than the t...

Brewing and blogging in Austin, Texas wishing I were somewhere in Scotland. Saturday, August 27, 2011. Many have written about a supposed new beer style. It is black in color, has a somewhat malty sweet body with notes of caramel, toasted or roasted malt, and it is hopped to the teeth with citrusy and piney hops from the American pacific northwest. I've seen at least three different names attached to it: Cascadian Dark Ale, Black IPA, and (the worst of the lot in my opinion) India Black Ale. Second to be...

Brewing and blogging in Austin, Texas wishing I were somewhere in Scotland. Thursday, October 7, 2010. Oktoberfestbier and a 400 Pound Monkey. I recently rediscovered Colorado's Left Hand Brewing Company. This year there were really only three American Oktoberfest biers that lived up to the scrutiny. They were the aforementioned Left Hand brew as well as Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest. And our own Real Ale Brewery's Oktoberfest. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Oktoberfestbier and a 400 Pound Monkey.
A Flagon of Ale: February 2012

A Flagon of Ale. Beer drinking and brewing from the Twin Cities. Tuesday, February 7, 2012. This past weekend was Winterfest. The sister festival to fall's Autumn Brew Review. Where ABR is generally packed and outdoors, Winterfest is a bit more austere, hosted in the beautiful Minnesota History Center, and limited to 700 tickets. But it seems be generating a lot of interest and excitement and I haven't heard much backlash. Perhaps some will succumb to market forces etc, but so far, it seems, so good.

A Flagon of Ale. Beer drinking and brewing from the Twin Cities. Monday, August 15, 2011. A request to bars. Please, can we start serving beer in the proper glassware? I think we've outgrown the straight-sided shaker pint glass. It's fine sometimes, but if we're going to take the time to serve beer from 3 different continents (and likely at $6 a pint) it's not too much to ask to have them served in different glasses is it? Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Brew City, USA. Either way, I'll surely be back to che...

Tuesday, March 18, 2014. This "new" thing they call "craft". It just occurred to me, how much of the problem some people seem to have with the c-word may be down, not to over-use. And there has been of late), but rather to lack. Of familiarity. I spotted a knowledgeable beer blogger apparently expressing surprise. At the term "craft butcher". This is a long established usage; I mean there's even a magazine. Did we forget craft potters, craft furniture makers, etc? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Nautical vie...

Drink Responsibly, Don't Spill. Friday, March 23, 2018. Old Friends: Devils Backbone Vienna Lager. Being a central European style lager, it seemed only right to pour it into my half litre mug from the lovely Purkmistr in Plzeň that I got at the first Slunce ve Skle festival a decade ago. What a glorious deep copper beer with orange edges and half inch of off-white head that leaves a fine tracery of lacing down the glass. Posted by Alistair Reece. Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
