Funboy Five: the formation
http://funboyfive.co.uk/form.html
Why they did it. Why did no-one stop them? With a specific agenda but much less a musical style, the Funboy Five formed in January 1979 in Hemel Hempstead, England. To this day, nobody has been able to adequately describe in words, sounds or even in mime, what the agenda or the much less a musical style actually were. Funboy Five: the last days and the 21st century revival
http://funboyfive.co.uk/last.html
Last Days and the 21st Century Revival. In short, in the months following the release of the single, there was no magic to being in the band and doing live gigs was becoming a chore. Paul the drummer began failing to turn up for gigs, most notoriously at one which the Funboy Five were due to headline over a pre-Fish version of Marillion. And i...

On April 29, 1979, the Funboy Five recorded a demo tape comprising three songs: ‘Life After Death’, ‘Angela Rippon’ and ‘All This And More’. The tape also got reviewed in the weekly music paper Sounds: 'Hemel Hempstead four-piece with a sense of humour, semi-deadpan vocals and a pleasant poppy feel. Includes the...

Funboy Five: the single
http://funboyfive.co.uk/single.html
The story of the 1980 single. Life After Death'/'Compulsive Eater'. Had engendered some record company interest, no declarations of intent resulted in any commitment to finance, record or release anything by the group. Feeling the momentum created by the Peel session and few snippets in the music press ebbing away, the Funboy Five decided the next step should be an independently-released single. This became ’Life After Death’/’Compulsive Eater’. This rare photo of the Funboy Five, playing live at Hemel H...
