ILand core development team. Both currently at BOKU Vienna. Are the principal investigators of iLand. Dr. Seidl holds a PhD in forestry and has extensive expertise in forest ecosystem dynamics, disturbance ecology, and the effects of climate change on forest ecosystems. Prior to developing iLand he has already worked on modeling forest ecosystems at a variety of scales, from individual trees. To the continental level. And was part of the developers team of the hybrid forest patch model PICUS v1.4. And pr...

Diversity mitigates disturbance impact : iLand News

Diversity mitigates disturbance impact. Published on 25.06.2015. The relationships and interactions between biodiversity and disturbance have long been a focus of ecological research ( Connell 1978. Furthermore, recent research has shown that biodiversity is the backbone for the provisioning of many important ecosystem services. One of the major hypothesis here is known as the insurance hypothesis ( Yachi and Loreau 1999. Who’s actually done all the hard work). We found that as predicted by the insurance...

Cover roughly 30% of the global land area, store approximately three times more carbon. Than the earths’ atmosphere, are hotspots of biodiversity. And provided a multitude of ecosystem services to society. However, many of these crucial ecosystem functions and services are severely threatened by anthropogenic climate change. Understanding the trajectories and sensitivities of forest ecosystems is thus crucial for sustaining the planets life-support system. Forest ecosystems are complex adaptive systems.

Discover Science at Royal Holloway, University of London. Next Post →. Does forest diversity matter? July 4, 2012. By Julia Koricheva and Harriet Milligan, School of Biological Sciences. Forests are the most species-rich of all terrestrial ecosystems, they also control. A large portion of the carbon, nutrient and water balances of the Earth. But are these two aspects interlinked? Do more diverse forests deliver better ecosystem services? Ctional significance of forest bio div. Faecal pellets of roe deer.
