Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Scarlet Runner Beans, Bumblebees, and Super Dogs. Our Squash crop is coming along nicely. I also planted some Swiss Chard, and it’s not doing badly. We’re harvesting the Lettuce for our nightly salads, and our Tomatoes are going from green to red as we speak. Some of Sara’s Flowers are still gracing our garden with their lovely blooms. Friday, August 30, 2013. Our Garden Slowly Says Goodbye to Summer. The torrential rains today were most welcome in Sara’s flower and vegetable garden beds! We tried to irrigate them as best as we could with our system of soaker hoses that could be hooked up with a click of a plastic connector, but some parts of the garden had to be watered manually, including a series of Dahlia flowers that she is cultivating to enter into the Fall Fair competition. With our tomatoes, we seem to have hit the jackpot!

Saturday, July 29, 2006. Brandy, Blue Girl, and American Dream. Our second heatwave of the summer just broke. I had to put a warm vest on this morning, since it was kind of chilly. They’re calling for showers on the weekend. Our garden will be grateful. Sara’s hybrid Tea Roses are blooming. Hedgehog’s favorite is the Brandy variety, while I am still amazed by the Blue Girl. The twiggy little branches on my dwarf apple tree are leaning towards the ground. I can’t help wondering if they will be able to bear the weight when the apples (seven of three varieties are fully grown.
