Gabriola Historical and Museum Society: Mission

http://www.gabriolahistory.ca/newspapers.shtml

Gabriola Editions 1874 - 1894. There never was a Gabriola edition of the Nanaimo Free Press. So far as we know. We have collected articles about Gabriola and its people from microfilm of the old Free Press. And put them together in our own "Gabriola Editions" - a mixture of shipping news and farm news, births, marriages and deaths, celebrations and disasters, courtships and court cases - to give the flavour of the times. Nine Gabriola editions have been created so far. BC Archives, letter G.

Gabriola Historical and Museum Society: Archival Photos - The Brickyard

http://www.gabriolahistory.ca/photos-brickyard.shtml

Archival Photos: The Brickyard. From the end of the 19th century until the early 1950s, Gabriola’s single most important industry and largest employer was the Gabriola Brickyard. Millions of bricks were manufactured and exported annually for construction of buildings and roads in Nanaimo, Vancouver, Victoria and New Westminster. For more than five decades the Brickyard shaped the lives of Gabriolans, as well as hundreds of island families, Chinese contract labourers and immigrant workers. Two men, uniden...

The Gabriola Green Bikes Project

The Gabriola Green Bikes Project. Thursday, September 9, 2010. Last month, I attended a one-week course in bicycle maintenance and repair at United Bicycle Institute. In Ashland, Oregon. The trip was made possible by a generous donation from Green Bikes founder Hank Sirlin. After completing the course, I'm certainly no pro but I now know enough to teach some basic workshops for the community. The first one took place last weekend at The Commons. For supplying the photo for this post. Let me hear it.
