NASCAR: 2005-11-13

Saturday, November 19, 2005. Rusty Ends Great Career. Rusty Wallace, who finished 13th in Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, ended his career with a 49-race streak of running at the finish that began at Bristol, Tenn., in August 2004. When I got in the car today there was a lot of emotion going into it, but once I hit the switch, it was all about performance, get a good run, make the right calls, stay out of trouble, finish good," he said. NASCAR: Talladega Will Be Repaved

Thursday, December 15, 2005. Talladega Will Be Repaved. Talladega Superspeedway will be repaved next year, the first time since 1979, and several drivers say they're looking forward to a smoother ride. Drivers have complained about the track, saying the uneven surface takes a toll on springs and other chassis parts and makes the bumper-to-bumper racing even more harrowing. The track surface had settled in several spots and asphalt patches have raised the surface in other areas. I have a Tony Stewart.

In a typical Nextel Cup race weekend, fans stuff their backpacks with NASCAR T-shirts, flags, caps, even gadgets that let them listen in on conversations between drivers and their pit crews. They buy beer and snacks. When the race is over, they blow hundreds of dollars shopping and visiting tourist attractions. Then they go out for a nice dinner before settling down in their $200-a-night hotel rooms.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005. NASCAR rolls out luxury box. Newer NASCAR fans have fatter wallets and finer tastes, some of the reasons Phoenix International Raceway is planning a luxury lounge where patrons can watch in style. Octane, set to open in time for the April 23 race, will be the first lounge of its kind at the nation's tracks and follows the sport's trend of chasing fans who defy its stereotype. It's going to be the place to be seen," Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan Sperber said.
