Gearless Clock
http://gadgetbuilder.com/GearlessClock/Gearless_Clock.html
Weights and Drive String. Escapement - Video Loop. GadgetBuilder.com * Last Modified: 07 May 2016 09:08 MST. Building Woodward's Gearless Clock. After reading Dr. Philip Woodward's "My Own Right Time". I was inspired to build a copy of his gearless clock. John Wilding's construction book. The escapement remained a bit of a puzzle to me until I built it and saw it operate. Each minute the pin wheel is pulled backward slightly; this releases the pin captured by a lip on the counterbalanced escape so the es...
A Visit to My Shop
http://gadgetbuilder.com/MyShop.html
What's New on the Site. GadgetBuilder.com * 2015 by John Moran. A Visit to GadgetBuilder's Shop. Last Modified: 16 August 2016 11:10 MST. My shop is a 12x14 area walled off in the basement to include the furnace so it is comfortable in Connecticut winters. The picture above shows my minilathe bench - clearly, I like all my commonly used tools at my fingertips. I find this less-than-tidy setup convenient for the projects that I undertake. Things have changed a bit. Over time, of course. I added a goosenec...
Minor Minilathe Mods
http://gadgetbuilder.com/MiniMods.html
Height and Stability Increase. About 3 Jaw Chucks. Last Modified: 25 June 2015 11:03 MST. There are several mods to the mini-lathe which are minor, quick to do and help some facet of its operation, reliability or maintenance. These items aren't worth adding a new page for each but they do address details that may be worthwhile, depending on the uses to which the lathe is put. To allow air in with the idea that heat generated by the board would cause circulation from the bottom holes through the top holes...

Build a Coddington Magnifier
http://gadgetbuilder.com/Coddington.html
Last Modified: 20 April 2015 07:20 MST. As a deer tick watcher. I need a good 10x magnifier in order to count the legs (important in determining whether the tick could carry Lyme disease, a real concern here in CT). So, I bought a B and L Coddington type 10x magnifier. This works very well although it is heavier than the old no-name Hastings triplet 10x I've had for many years. In order to make the spherical surface on each end of the Coddington I wanted to use my minilathe's ball fixture. This page was ...

Fire Piston Aluminum Projects Make | Silver Cog Blog

Machining by hand in a digital world. Archive for the ‘Fire Piston Aluminum Projects Make’ Tag. Posted October 7, 2010. Tags: Fire Piston Aluminum Projects Make. I’m not really sure how I grew up camping all the time, many times in the in fairly remote wilderness, as well as becoming an Eagle Scout without ever hearing about fire pistons. A while back I came across this post on Make about them and did some research. It seems like a great machining project, and a fairly simple one at that.
Mini Lathe | Silver Cog Blog

Machining by hand in a digital world. The Mini Lathe is a great machine for the price. It has allowed me to enter the world of machining with little investment yet still get a full lathe experience (within reason). However, once you start using it, you start to understand it’s limitations and realize that you need to tweak, modify, enhance, and perform some rituals with candles and incense before you can really get consistent performance from it. 1 comment so far.
