Gaijin Lamford: Typhoon Shan-Shan

http://www.gaijinlamford.blogspot.com/2006/09/typhoon-shan-shan.html

Monday, September 25, 2006. Typhoon Shan-Shan had been approaching Japan for a few days, working its way northwards along the Asian mainland. By the time it passed over Fukuoka it was much weaker, but still considered the worst storm in many years. Honestly, I'm happy with a glimpse for now. Gaijin Lamford: Takachiho Gorge

http://www.gaijinlamford.blogspot.com/2006/11/takachiho-gorge.html

Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Japan is a beautiful place, but its countryside is scarred with concrete. Flat land is built on, or farmed. Steep land is useless, so allowed to grow free. But even there, the cloud soaked hills bear the weight of large red and white pylons, rivers are strictly channelled, and bridges abound. There seems to be little concept of wilderness here, as all is tamed, directed, sanitised. Bridges seem to come in threes, stacked above each other. The gorge is lined with concrete paths...

Gaijin Lamford: Miscellaneous Eccentricity 1

http://www.gaijinlamford.blogspot.com/2006/12/some-eccentricities.html

Saturday, December 02, 2006. It being Autumn, there is a lot of leaf sweeping to be done. There are often university workers to be seen clearing up the heaped drifts, in a suit with broom in hand. At times, they get a little over eager. Last week I saw a smartly dressed man standing five metres up a tree, using his broom to sweep leaves straight from the branch. Posted by Oliver Lamford. Gaijin Lamford: Karatsu Kunchi

http://www.gaijinlamford.blogspot.com/2006/11/karatsu-kunchi.html

Saturday, November 04, 2006. Fourteen floats, each three stories high and several tonnes in weight, are dragged in grand style through the town by hundreds of people. The floats are between 150 and 200 years old, but remain immaculately decorated and in pristine condition. Aye-yar aye-yar aye-yar aye! Aye-yar aye-yar aye-yar aye! Aye-yar aye-yar aye-yar aye! Every group wears a distinct, vividly coloured outfit. They range in age from the toddlers placed in the float and kids who lead the procession,...

Gaijin Lamford: Gawping at Gaijin

http://www.gaijinlamford.blogspot.com/2006/10/gawping-at-gaijin.html

Sunday, October 29, 2006. As a gaijin, you possess definite novelty value. In a country where the racial majority makes up 99% of the population, a westerner's height and face immediately marks them out as an outsider. Children wave, strangers say hello, or occasionally just stare. It's almost always extremely friendly, but takes some getting used to. In Japan, a gaijin always wears fancy dress. Tales of the Unemployed: Tales of the Unemployed Part 11 (The End of An Era - For A While)

http://dont-get-jealous.blogspot.com/2007/02/tales-of-unemployed-part-11-end-of-era.html

Tuesday, 27 February 2007. Tales of the Unemployed Part 11 (The End of An Era - For A While). It’s a bit strange. I’m looking at my diary and there are lots of things written in it. To be precise, I am going to be busy until the first of June! So why all this activity all of a sudden? Watching ‘Spaced’ the other day (yes I ran out of Peep Show) I was presented with the question, ‘Does inactivity breed laziness? Once again the comments are priceless. Good old West Morlands I say. 21 March 2013 at 18:45.

Tuesday, 20 February 2007. Tales of the Unemployed Part 9 (Mmm. Brownies). Clearly £50 per week isn’t going to help the ‘moving out of home’ fund but at least it pays for the occasional pilgrimage to the pub. In terms of ‘real jobs’, our findings from the last few days are that there aren’t any. This phase of Operation Get A Job may take a little while yet at this rate. This tempts us to make Rhetorical Question of the Day: ‘Where Are The Jobs? Jake Gyllenhaal covered in chocolate hummmm). Ahhh whats hap...

Saturday, 10 February 2007. Tales Of The Unemployed Part 8 (Rejection and cups of tea). Big news, Hollie received her first rejection (cheer noises) yes she is now a lesser mortal like Sarah, but did she let it get her down? She drank tea and made a cake, it would seem that rejection has turned her into somewhat of a domestic goddess. Oh she also joined a temp agency, but that’s not as exciting as cake. And then decided that we needed to be achieving more so set up our own PR agency and all before lunch!

Friday, 23 February 2007. Tales of the Unemployed Part 10 (Burning Chairs). Today we realised that no matter how bad it gets, there is still someone that has it a little bit worse; we could be the journalist that to report on this. Its been a fairly active week for the two of us, with job interviews (don't worry, I doubt anything will come of it), cinema outings, trips to gigs and the pub (well in Sarah's case anyway). Hollie entered data (she's really lucky). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tales of...

Monday, 5 March 2007. Tales of the Unemployed Part 12 (Doors and Holidays). Today is an extraordinary day - for the first time in quite a while both of us are in paid employment and will be all week; yes, an entire week of work. However kids, don’t get too excited, Hollie hates her job with the fire of a thousand suns and next week Sarah goes back to earning only three days a week. On that note I guess its back to work! 29 June 2007 at 03:11. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tales of the Unemployed.

Lets take a detour away from the strip. Stop to think, am I really that hip? Down through the laneways bunkered with trees,. Where the houses have hedges shaped like. I met a man there that looked a lot like me. I said, "I'll knock around with you but I'm not. So cheap, to think what you want me to,. Now I really have to have that drink. And I, put that thought right outta my mind. And it's like some kind of guilt trip catching up. And it's a brick and tile fever it a long way to gauge, so who can say?

Where in the World? Monday, May 18, 2015. Happy Birthday to Me. In the past several weeks,. I got engaged (for real). Moved into a new apartment. And started a job with World Bank. Vita a Tokyo attraverso gli occhi…di un llama! Io non sono una cantante. Amo scrivere del niente,. Di ginocchia pesanti,. Delle luci assordanti e di parole senza troppo peso.
