No longer forward or behind I look with hope or fear; But, grateful, take the good I find, The best of now and here. John Greenleaf Whittier. To celebrate the New Year, I am going to buy a portrait-quality picture of Annie, place it in a gilt frame, and hang it above my bed. I will do that first thing tomorrow. Like the Little Orphan Optimist, I. It is the one thing most likely to get me through today. Fortunately, six days of every week come with a shiny-new tomorrow of their own! Anyone can do it!

Stories Around the Kamp Fire. Yarns and Thoughts from Gale Sears. Tuesday, September 6, 2011. A nation of well-informed men (and women) who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.". You may think that the two images and the quote by Benjamin Franklin have no connection, when indeed they do. In ignorance the Chinese people were enslaved. May we as Americans never find ourselves in such a place. Autumn ...

Stories Around the Kamp Fire. Yarns and Thoughts from Gale Sears. Monday, September 9, 2013. At a Loss for Words. It is a sad state of affairs when a writer is at a loss for words. It usually means that the inspiration has dried up, or there are no adequate words to express either the beauty of a place or the horror of a situation. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with watching sweet cuddly cats, but I think it's the equivalent of sticking one's head in the sand. If my personal rightness were st...

Stories Around the Kamp Fire. Yarns and Thoughts from Gale Sears. Sunday, January 29, 2012. There are two extremes of rule, on one side of the scale is tyranny, and on the other side, anarchy. Tyranny is when a ruler rules absolutely, and anarchy is where there is no rule. Most people are more comfortable with a set of rules somewhere in the middle; a place where people rule with checks and balances. Enough government to protect, but not oppress. Where would one find the most freedom? Links to this post.

No longer forward or behind I look with hope or fear; But, grateful, take the good I find, The best of now and here. John Greenleaf Whittier. Scott) Savage, Robison Wells, Stephanie Black, Julie Bellon and me. (These folks remain my favorite authors - and people - of all time.) This week Julie put together a reunion. Today was my turn. I sat down to write this y...

Our focus will be on the precious gifts brought to earth with the birth of the Son of God: peace, love, and hope. I have a feeling those things will bring us serenity. Links to this post.
