New Zealand, Part 5: Kaikoura – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/12/02/new-zealand-part-5-kaikoura
New Zealand, Part 5: Kaikoura. December 2, 2016. I’ve hesitated to write this story about the seaside town of Kaikoura which was so dramatically. Along the coast on Highway 1. It was an unplanned adventure and we had a little trouble finding the spot. All the bays seemed to look alike and we made a few wrong turns. We were looking for a place that started with the letter ‘O” so when we arrived at Okiwi it seemed right to us. Okiwi Bay and Highway 1. It’s rather startling to think about it. The best time ...
About Me – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/about-me
I’ve been a traveler since I was a child when my Dad would ask if I wanted to go with him to get some gas in the car. Those trips to the corner filling station could take hours as we drove off to visit one relative after another. A full tank of gas meant freedom! I’ve never been cured. I like to wander, to see new places and meet new people. I can’t help it. It must be genetic. I’m going where the wind carries me. So come along.
The Spider Pavilion is in Los Angeles – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/11/23/the-spider-pavilion
The Spider Pavilion is in Los Angeles. November 23, 2016. I recently made a trip to Los Angeles to check out something most people wouldn’t walk across the street to see. In fact, they possibly. Would head as fast as possible in the opposite direction. I went to the Natural History Museum to see the Spider Pavilion. This special exhibit is on display through December 11, 2016. The first thing I noticed is that spiders are a lot smaller than butterflies! Spider against screen at Spider Pavilion. Pterosaur...

November 4, 2016. New Zealand, Part 3: Ohakune. Nestled just to the south of Tongariro National Park is the wonderful little town of Ohakune. This was another must see place on my itinerary. Why? October 28, 2016. New Zealand, Part 2: Tirau. When one thinks of a vacation in New Zealand one thinks of the tourist spots like Queenstown, Wellington, or Auckland. But today I’m going to write about. October 21, 2016. New Zealand, Part 1: Rotorua. October 13, 2016. October 5, 2016. September 25, 2016. My recent...

January 6, 2017. New Zealand Part 9: Oamaru. The coastal town of Oamaru is best known for its little blue penguins. These tiny birds march up the beach each day at dusk to the delight of tourists ensconced in a little viewing area. My daughter Halley and I. December 30, 2016. New Zealand Part 8: Moeraki Boulders. One of the places I definitely wanted to visit in New Zealand was on the South Island at a much photographed beach known. December 23, 2016. New Zealand Part 7: Aoraki/Mount Cook. November 27, 2...
New Zealand Part 8: Moeraki Boulders – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/12/30/new-zealand-part-8-moeraki-boulders
New Zealand Part 8: Moeraki Boulders. December 30, 2016. One of the places I definitely wanted to visit in New Zealand was on the South Island at a much photographed beach known. For its Moeraki Boulders. I allowed an entire day for this stop just to be certain I would be there at low tide. There was one thing I didn’t plan for…that I would forget the plate that connects my camera to the tripod! I could have kicked myself for that mistake since it was impossible to take long exposure shots without it.
New Zealand Part 6: Mt Cook and Tasman Glacier – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/12/16/new-zealand-part-6-mt-cook-and-tasman-glacier
New Zealand Part 6: Mt Cook and Tasman Glacier. December 16, 2016. My daughter Halley and I set out early from Christchurch heading more or less south toward Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. We had a Tasman Glacier excursion planned for the early afternoon and want to dawdle on the road. Our itinerary. Indicated the drive would take a few hours! The view from Highway 8 as we drove toward Mount Cook Village. This isn’t near Mount Cook. I think we were still on Highway 8 heading toward Lake Tekapo. I somet...
New Zealand, Part 4: Abel Tasman Kayaking – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/11/11/new-zealand-part-4-abel-tasman-kayaking
New Zealand, Part 4: Abel Tasman Kayaking. November 11, 2016. My daughter, Halley, and I believe that sometimes you just have to try something different. So she and I, neither of us brilliant swimmers, agreed to sign up for a sea kayaking adventure in Abel Tasman National Park. Of course the night before our outing. The wind was howling and the rain came down in sheets. Would this excursion really take place? A stormy morning at our hotel in Nelson as we wait for the Abel Tasman Coach. After the short cr...
LACMA and Guillermo del Toro – Neighborhood Travels
http://neighborhoodtravels.com/2016/11/17/lacma-and-guillermo-del-toro
LACMA and Guillermo del Toro. November 17, 2016. November 27, 2016 is the last day of the special exhibition,. Guillermo del Toro, At Home With Monsters,. At the Los Angeles Museum of Art (LACMA). I managed to. Get there a couple days ago and it was indeed well worth the effort. This is a colossal collection of all things del Toro. On display are paintings, concept art, pages from his notebooks, costumes, comic books, Universal Studios classic monsters and, of course, lots of insects. And its dresses....
