Monday, May 11, 2015. A Few Last Moments In The Kitchen, Umbria. Still here for a few more minutes….which means a few more bites. I do enjoy making a simple meal…and have had some good opportunities with some great ingredients! Take some locally baked bread, a few olives and good local pecorino cheese….You have a lunch to write home about! No, I didn't make this bounty. A wonderful local baker did. Thanks, Lia! Just add olives, marmalade and pecorino.A perfect lunch. Roasted with garlic, of course. I'm j...

Thursday, July 23, 2015. A Few Garden "Fricks".And More. A zillion years ago I worked at the Carmel Valley Begonia Gardens. I knew that I loved plants, and had a bedroom that was not unlike a jungle. I would visit the Begonia Gardens anytime I had a little extra cash, just to see what new houseplants were available. Because I am so very fond of variegated plants, I will sooner or later see something odd begin in my own little garden…my own little "fricks" to love and admire. This is so cool…. I am always...

Live Pronto!: September 2014

Sunday, September 21, 2014. You Lookin' At Me? I think I've nailed pretty much every m. Irror shot possible, within a 20km area of Panicale. What am I going to do now? It's a dilemma. I believe I have captured them all…. Me, Johnny, an old round road mirror…. Still, what the hell else am I going to do on all the walks we take, right? So, my dear readers, I give you this year's big old batch of silliness known as:. I can't imagine why. A walk in the countryside…not sure exactly where. This is in Cortona.

Saturday, April 26, 2014. Of the many things we enjoy here, sunsets along the old town walls are close to the top of the list. Looking out across the Val di Chiana, with Cortona to the North and Montepulciano to the West, Lago Trasimeno settled right down there in the valley below us…it's spectacular. It's a view we dream about all year back home, and enjoy at all times of the day or night while here. It starts to get good right about now. It makes me smile. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Known as "Pasquetta",...

Friday, November 7, 2014. Morning Walk, November 7, 2014. I'm sure I do a post like this every year…the Harvest Moon at sunrise/moonset on the Monterey Bay…. It moves me enough every year to actually haul along my little camera so I can get the shot, which always ends up being a zillion shots…but really, why not? So beautiful to be out before the moon goes down and the sun comes up. For some wonderful reason, November is the. I see you, Moon. Moonlight reflection on the bay…pretty. We listen to books whi...

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. A Visit To The Nursery. I totally dig taking the time to check out the various local nurseries in our area, here in Umbria. I do the same thing at home…I have my favorites, and I go back to them time and time again. I'm a plant whore. What can I say. Hey, there are worse vices, right? Why wouldn't I want to dip my toes into the waters here? After getting directions, we were good to go. It took us a few days to finally find the time, but we did…and what a treat! It's still on the ...

Sunday, March 30, 2014. I love a great nursery, and am always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. This holds true here in Umbria, just as much as back home in California. Most of the local nurseries here are small family run operations that have vegetable starts, flowers for outdoors and houseplants….terra cotta pots, soils and compost, fertilizers….just what you might expect. They're great, and I love the small greenhouses these establishments are usually housed in. I was amazed at the lar...

Friday, April 24, 2015. A Little Drive In The Country. It started out so nice. We wanted to drive way up to the top of a nearby mountain (not giant, but impressive to us…), just to see the views and find out what was there. Over the years, many of our pals here have recommended that we do this, and we figured it was about time. We wanted to just go for a drive. No big deal. The views over the valley, with Panicale and Lago Trasimeno way out there…. really spectacular. Must go back on a super clear day!

Live Pronto!: August 2015

Saturday, August 29, 2015. Side Trip: San Gimignano. In a matter of moments (ok, not exactly moments. We will once again be boarding that big flying tin can and zooming off to Italy. I gotta say, this never gets old. And I mean NEVER. As long as we can pull this off, we plan to Just Do It, as the expression goes. So….get ready for an onslaught, dear readers…. Once we found our hotel and parked the car for the duration, we headed out to explore. While driving, we had noticed some clouds in the distance, w...
