Saturday, October 2, 2010. One of those days. When I got to work, my co-worker reminded me that one of our temporary employees was naming his child today. If I wanted to go, we could go together right after work. OK, so my timetable adjusted a little. We could go briefly, pray for the baby, give our gifts and still be home by 2pm. Picture trying to scramble over a gearshift, going uphill, wearing a long straight skirt in a car that has 30 men and boys surrounding it! The man who was naming his child that...

Joanne's Gambia blog: May 2010

http://gambiathoughts.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Volcanoes and floods and ferries, oh my! I am back in The Gambia again! I had to change my flight because of the volcano in Iceland and then the day before my re-scheduled flight was due to leave Nashville, Nashville got hit with the biggest flood it had ever seen. Was someone trying to tell me something? Now that I'm back and have a decent internet connection I will try to post more regularly. If I don't, you have my permission to bug me. Talk to you later. Joanne's Gambia blog: March 2008

http://gambiathoughts.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 23, 2008. One of my nephews now wants me to get signed up with gmail so I can chat with him. One thing leads to another. So I now have that account too. Look for ajisuun. These things are great for someone like me who is far away from family and friends, but I can also see the danger of getting swallowed up in the virtual world and forgetting how to interact in the real one. Fortunately, I have the steady stream of people at my door to prevent that from happening. Saturday, March 8, 2008.

Joanne's Gambia blog: November 2008

http://gambiathoughts.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 8, 2008. Attack of the banana trees. Sometimes when we travel to Banjul as a group, we have strange experiences. With 4 people making purchases to bring back to Ndungu Kebbeh with us, you never know what might be in the car on the way home. Here's an example. Here I am riding along in the shade of a banana tree. Deb, attacked by her own tree! Suellen at the oasis. Teresa chillin' with the shades. The Walls are UP! The day of the great rice distribution dawned hot and sunny. It woul...

Joanne's Gambia blog: Expecting the unexpected

http://gambiathoughts.blogspot.com/2010/06/expecting-unexpected.html

Saturday, June 19, 2010. When you live in Africa you have to be ready for anything! Sometimes that means being ready for the snake that's curled up on your front steps, or the waterbed springing a leak, but other times it means a party that breaks out when you least expect it! This is not the first time this has happened and probably won't be the last. Africans are very hospitable and LOVE to party. Days like this are just one reason why I love living in Africa. June 19, 2010 at 9:21 PM.

Suellen Black, ABWE Mission Ndungu Kebbeh Health Centre, Ndungu Kebbeh, The Gambia, West Africa. Thursday, February 21, 2008. The Sisterhood and Field Council. A few weeks ago, I shared about the Sisterhood of Perpetual Togetherness. SPT for short. Which I confess I muck up and say STP and my sisters are quick to remind me we are NOT motor oil. I thought I would share the events of our weekend. My cousin asked for pictures of feet. Blame this one on her, but they are fairly clean! We arrived in Barra at ...

Barefoot Mama: Moving!

http://barefootmummy.blogspot.com/2009/11/moving.html

Making a decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. -Elizabeth Stone. Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Tomorrow we are moving! As God does, he provided us with a place that meets all of those needs! We found a small brick home on the outskirts of town that has a one car garage (but is big enough for my car and Nathan’s motorcycle), is pet friendly, and has three bedrooms! And our pastor and his dad (and possibly other men) are coming S...

Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! We stayed for an hour or two and then went back to their place. We had our dinner late in the evening and Melissa’s mom and her boyfriend came over. It was very nice and relaxing. How cool is that? Saturday we went out to Nathan’s paren...

Making a decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. -Elizabeth Stone. Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Things"- in no particular order. Things that make me cry. And I’ll have you know that 4 months ago, if I’d caught myself crying at any of these things, I would have laughed at myself for being such a girl). 1) Love songs/sad songs/most songs on the country radio station. 3) Reading touching birth stories. Things that make me happy!

My mommy bought us a Graco travel system yesterday! I’m not sure if she found it on craigslist or if she got it on the Cedarville classifieds but she got a really good deal on it. It’s used, but looks to me like it’s in perfectly good condition. And it'll work for a boy OR a girl. Thanks for all your help. Posted by Mommy Becoming.
