Lets not re-paint history in such broad strokes (sorry I had to). I love halo reach and I see as many if not more similarities to the classical landscape. Last week at GDC, the epic-sounding “.party()” thrown by Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, came under scrutiny for hiring girls - presumably models - to attend and mingle with guests. Kotaku’s account of the event. Twitter hashtag have been both pointed and productive. But is this Mojang party a justifiable cause for offense? After the jump, I speak to her in detail about whats ...

Tuesday, November 9, 2010. In M Night Shyamalan’s film The Sixth Sense. Fate curses Bruce Willis with the supernatural ability to see dead people. My curse is the ability to spot juicy metaphors that can be flogged until they’re dead. I'm a metaphor junkie. I guess it’s just my cross to b—a rghhhh. Almost walked right smack into that one.) Recently I’ve been struck by how perfectly the indie platformer Super Meat Boy. Overall game = writing project (novel, essay, dissertation, etc). Level = sentence unit.

Infinite Lag: October 2011
http://infinitelag.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 24, 2011. Having received my review. Copy of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Several days before its release date, I expected to have a harder time connecting to full multiplayer matches. As it turns out, there were ample opponents online, mostly located, according to the in-game leaderboard, in France and Germany. At the time, I assumed Space Marine. Must have released early in Europe: nearly all of these players had reached double-digit levels in Space Marine. Matches, I hadn't had much...

Sunday, April 3, 2011. Throwing Shapes: An Informal Tetris Lexicon. When we lived together briefly during college, my younger brother Josh and I played a lot of Tetris. Like a whole lot of Tetris. We played so much Tetris, in fact, that we quickly found ourselves needing a more nuanced language to discuss the types of scenarios we encountered in the game. I touched on our shared Tetris vocabulary in "Player One, Player Two," the essay I wrote for Kill Screen Issue 0. 1) Running the Gauntlet. 8212; Onlook...

Infinite Lag: Fair Play

Thursday, January 5, 2012. Every time Jenn Frank. Publishes a new piece, she proves why she continues to be my favorite games writer. Aside from being the most skilled personal essayist in this space, she also has an uncanny knack for teasing broader themes out of details. She's done it again, dammit, in her latest blog post, " On games of chance and 'cheating.'. Please go read it now, if you haven't already, since this post is in response to Jenn's. Incidentally, so is this image:. The theme of "fairnes...

Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Good news, everybody! I’ve accepted a position as a monthly poster for one of my favorite blogs, The Ontological Geek. The contributing writers are top notch and talk about video games in a critical and distinctly intelligent way, so it is quite an honor to join them for the relaunch of their site. My first post went up yesterday and I am already talking about my dirty love affair with Fenris in. Http:/ www.itallstartedwithchronotrigger.com. Labels: The Ontological Geek. Butahh&...
