http://homeschoolwithgrandma.blogspot.com/2013/09/hawthorne-park-with-seven-of.html
Sunday, September 15, 2013. Hawthorne Park with Seven of the Grandchildren. Hawthorn Park is just blocks from our home, so the grandchildren and I visit it often. September 12, 2013. The seven grandchildren ready to go. Charles, Douglas, Jacob, Aaron, Diana, Wesley, and Charlotte. First a stop at the "Cookie Store." This bakery is too handy - only 2 blocks from our house. Look at all the cicadas up there. The branch was loaded with cicada exoskeletons. Jacob, just turned 7. On the way back home. I came a...

Tenzi – Challenge Edition | Teaching Ace

Tenzi – Challenge Edition. April 6, 2015. I fell upon this post. At What Do We Do All Day? Sometime last year all about the game Tenzi, and I am SO glad! Tenzi is a brilliantly simple game that was an instant favorite for me, my daughter, and my students. Basically you need twenty dice between two players. It is easier if they are two different colors, but certainly not necessary. Each player has ten dice. At the same time both players roll their ten dice. We are on school holidays at the moment, which m...

Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Rotary Gardens - Field Trip - March 20, 2012. Four of the grandchildren and I headed to Rotary Gardens in Janesville, Wisconsin, today. We didn't expect to see many flowers, but the children were excited to see all the water places. Today was free admittance. They told us there is no charge until April 15th. So we plan to go again before they start charging. Checking out the fish in the pond. The day was windy, but wonderful! The water is a great attraction at any time. The geese...

Teaching and raising Christ-loving, laughing, happy kids one day at a time. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. It's taken me a LONG time to feel comfortable enough that if I made a family mission statement that we would MISS something. Oh no! Because then it wouldn't be. Perfect, complete, all I wanted it to be? Go away PERFECTION MONSTER! She did it in 3 minutes fault. She IS a good friend and knows me well, but still! I want that skill! So I'm working on it! Why we are homeschooling (simple right? Have been ta...

Sunday, September 4, 2011. Make a List - Creative Writing Exercise. This worked so well in the classroom, I had to try it at home. We would "play" Make a List. Quite often. The children loved it. I say "play" because that is what the children would say. They considered it a game. I consider it a good exercise in making them THINK. I guess we made it a game, of sorts. Animals with four legs. Things that go up and down. You wouldn't believe the number of great things we thought of for this one! My mom is .

Grandma's Homeschool: Saturday - Time with the Grandchildren
http://homeschoolwithgrandma.blogspot.com/2013/09/saturday-time-with-grandchildren.html
Sunday, September 15, 2013. Saturday - Time with the Grandchildren. First we went to a few garage sales. One sale had some very nice books. Of course, I bought a few. Children's books are my passion and I love getting new ones for the grandchildren. Then we went to Palmer Park for some fun. Diana loves to dig in the sand. Grandma loves to have the children pose and I just love this Little House as a place to do it. Douglas is so growing up.he is 10 now. Where did the years go? Wesley is on the move.

Saturday, February 23, 2013. A WHALES Unit for Young Children. This is an old article I wrote about Unit Studies. I still believe the same - that I need to write our own units. Douglas is currently 9 and Charles 7. I make up all of our units now. The main reason is that most units have information that is not at the level I currently need or is missing materials that we feel led to cover. I believe that the truly best unit for my grandsons is one that we put together ourselves. A couple of the books we r...

Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The Library Gingerbread Man. While we usually like to read true-to-life stories, we love all versions of The Gingerbread Man. I was excited to see this new tale at the library yesterday. Last evening I read it to four of the grandchildren (ages 8, almost 7, 5, and 3). They LOVED it and so did I. So he liked that Abraham Lincoln was pictured. And interestingly, so was Harriet Tubman, who we read a biography about only a few weeks ago. The illustrations by Colleen M. Madden are...

Grandma's Homeschool: May 2012

Saturday, May 26, 2012. Fort in the Backyard. Another day in that great week in March. The children are always building forts. They throw blankets over tables and chairs. They cut up and stack cardboard boxes. They climb on and move around wood on the wood pile. Whatever works! Children are just natural fort builders. So it was not surprising to see them use the laundry baskets, toys from the yard and even the laundry on the line. They built quite a wall. Diana has her weapon for defending the fort.
