A Seven Year Old makes a game in Six Weeks. July 26, 2013. Days 2 and 3: Sound and Vision. This year I wanted to have the game playable earlier. Last year we spent too much time on the art up front, so Dan got a little bored towards the end of the holidays, not being able to play his game. A Seven Year Old makes a game in Six Weeks. August 16, 2014. Dan and I spent the last three sessions modelling all the elements of the game, deciding what shape they’ll be. Here’s an image with the elements in roughly the right places as you’d see in a game. This isn’t a real level, we just put the pieces together, and they need to have colors and artwork attached yet. We spend about 30 minutes to an hour each day for the six week summer holidays. In 2012, Dan was 5, we made " Cave Saver.

Dan spent today getting more used to the tool, moving things around, creating new objects and playing through to see if the level worked. This is the result. A first level (though Dan was at pains to point out that it is too hard to be the ‘first’ level). The dangly lines are strings, which Dan wants to hang letters from in the game. Dan was six when he made this rolling ball game. It is built in Unity, with game design, art and level design by him. Play the Game in your Browser. Since 2012, we have used each summer to work on a game together. I handle the programming duties (though I hope in a couple of years hell be able to do more of that too), but I help him design the game and build as much as he possibly can.
