Sewing In The Sunshine. Did a bit of sewing in that brief afternoon of sunshine we had the other day, and very pleasant it was too. Apparently the sticky buds of horse chestnut can be used as a herbal remedy to cure " mental chatter, repetitive thoughts or worrisome behaviours”. I must get myself some. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Autumn / Big Bee. I couldn't resist popping up a short post - Nature is shouting very loudly in Garden 65 - Autumn is frantically waving her jazz hands at me - so here is a big bee greedily slurping the last of the nectar. Hope you are enjoying this lovely weather xxx. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Autumn / Big Bee. The Reality of Urban Wildlife.
Garden65: For The Muse
http://garden65.blogspot.com/2015/07/for-muse.html
This last week I abandoned Garden65 to its watery realm and flew to the Greek island of Kephalonia, land of immense heat and freddo cappuccinos. However, the illusion can't be sustained when you take into account the surrounding soundscape: it is cicada season. There is a constant, 24 hour chattering chorus. Interestingly, the Muses gave them a job to do. They had to watch humans and report back on how they were honouring the Muse. O muse, o alto ingegno, or m’aiutate;. The Reality of Urban Wildlife.

Mating Flies on Naturally Dyed Cloth. The natural dye mania continues. I've been raiding local parks for greenery: Buttercups, Butterbur, Hawthorn and Willow, to name a few. Each outing is an exercise in embarrassment. What do other park users think I'm doing? Once when I was picking up autumn leaves a woman came up to me. When I said I was going to use them for natural dyeing her face suddenly lightened as understanding dawned. 'You're a teacher, aren't you? I do worry that someone might challenge me ab...

Heucheras : My Guilty Pleasure. I love Heucheras. Absolutely love them. I appreciate that when first glanced at the plant as a whole can appear dull (where's the flower? And sometimes a little too fleshy, but when you sit next to them when drinking your coffee and study them up close their true intricacy and subtlety becomes apparent. Obviously where I see soul and beauty others see sponsership deals and sentimentality. Fame) Herr von Heucher was an Austrian and his name was pronounced 'Hoyker', which is...

Woodlouse House: End of Month: March 2015
http://woodlousehouse.blogspot.com/2015/03/end-of-month-march-2015.html
A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. End of Month: March 2015. I love this time of change! The view from the kitchen door improves daily as the bulbs come into flower and the perennials come to life. I have tidied this bed but obviously the sun improves the view too! The front of the garden has taken up quite a lot of my time and attention this week. It began as an unsightly mess! Here is a half and half photo showing a bit I have done and a bit to do.
Woodlouse House: Work Horses
http://woodlousehouse.blogspot.com/2015/04/work-horses.html
A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Thursday, 2 April 2015. It is a complete mix of colour and height but I love it that way! Talking to my niece though made me think if I was starting again which plants would I use? Which are my Top Ten Perennials for my garden. Difficult! But the honeysuckle beats it in my book. The ivy is not a contender but my second choice is . 4 Lupins. An absolute must in my garden. Very easy to grow from seed and they come in so many colours&#...5 Del...

Woodlouse House: April

A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Saturday, 18 April 2015. With the weather being so kind I have spent hours in the garden. I tidied up the front garden and moved a couple of plants - a clump of grass from the back of a border which is now next to the small pond and a Thalictrum which surprised me after I planted it in the front of a border by growing to be four feet tall. None of the cabbages or cauliflowers I sowed in it have germinated; the tomato, cucumber and onion tra...

A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Sunday, 15 March 2015. Well, here we have all the usual suspects. Only a few of the large daffodils have bloomed so far but the miniature ones are nodding away in the cold wind and bringing a smile to my face. Now I am particularly pleased with the Primulas this year. In 2013 I collected lots of seeds, threw them in a few pots and left them . suddenly I had so many seedlings I had no idea where to put them! We have a Robin bringing nesting ...
Woodlouse House: Fruit and Veg
http://woodlousehouse.blogspot.com/2015/04/fruit-and-veg.html
A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Wednesday, 1 April 2015. Our side of the allotment is weeded and the veg beds dug over waiting for us to get planting. The onions and potatoes will be in tomorrow. Then I can sow the carrot, radish and beetroot seeds. I have moved some of the flower plants back to the house to go in the garden or on the lane. Andy spent a few minutes photographing the flowers while we were up there:. 2 April 2015 at 01:17. These flower photos are stunning!

A country home and garden journal. Eating in at Woodlouse House. Friday, 9 January 2015. We have been out enjoying the winter sunshine at Rufford and Clumber Parks. There have been reports of Hawfinches but we didn't catch up with them . lots of beautiful Gold-crests; Jays; Tree-creepers and Nuthatches though so I'm not complaining! This morning. On closer inspection I found quite a few buds and blooms out enjoying the winter sunshine with us . and a couple of aphids! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). On 22 Ju...

I had an erotic dream about Chris Packham the other night. You know its Springwatch time when you dream of Chris Packham. Not that in my waking hours I particularly yearn for the man. To be honest Im probably past such things. I am currently reading his autobiography, so I think what happened was my dreaming mind simply worked its chthonic evil on the nearest male who came to mind. Thank goodness Im not reading anything by Jeremy Clarkson. I wonder what kind of spam that title will attract).

This blog purpose is to share my success and failures in gardening in a tropic. I have no particular liking to any plant/ flower but once it caught my attention there is no other way for me but to have it. Since I’ve all the local plant that i fancy, now i cast my eyes far away, temperate flower/plant. Hence the existence of My Experimental Garden Blog. Hope you enjoy my blog. Tuesday, 18 August 2015.
