Loading menu. If the menu doesn't load then please click here. Guided River Walk Report. It's funny. The last report I wrote in July (just after the Nightjar and Glowworm Walk. Started with me worrying about the weather. No changes there then! The Guided River Walk along the Stour at Bear Mead looked like it was going to be a complete washout. More "river" than "walk". Nightjar and Glow-worm Twilight Walk a "Churring" "Glowing" Success.

Ramblings of a Zoologist. Freelance naturalist, wildlife artist, writer and editor. Wildlife resolutions for 2015. December 30, 2014. June 1, 2016. At the start of 2014, I decided to set myself a series of nature-related ‘challenges’ to help me get outside and see more wildlife over the year. You can read more on my blog ‘ Nature Quest: discovering nature in 2014. 8216; or on the individual Nature Quest blogs listed on my wildlife posts. Listening to the dawn chorus. And brushing up on my butterflies.

Insect rambles: September 2013
http://insectrambles.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wandering around, photographing insects. Thursday, 5 September 2013. Where are all the ladybirds? Where have all the ladybirds gone? I've hardly seen any this year.' In this case the question is relayed, second-hand, via a friend and through Twitter, but it's becoming a worryingly frequent refrain this year. As a professional ladybird-fancier (my very-nearly-finished PhD is on ladybirds and in my spare time (what spare time? I'm part of the UK Ladybird Survey. The British summer, 2012. That meant that a ...
Wilde About Birds: June 2014

Saturday, 28 June 2014. A Hen Harrier on the Roof. Our village has started a Scarecrow competition, with no theme and which anyone can take part in. So I decided to take part and make a male Hen Harrier to raise awareness of it's decline. I've been lucky enough to see Hen Harriers a few times, but maybe I won't in the future if something isn't done to halt this decline. The Hen Harrier Scarecrow Project. The model was covered in feathers cut out from old grey material (by mum) and coating in a litre of P...
Insect rambles: March 2014
http://insectrambles.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Wandering around, photographing insects. Monday, 24 March 2014. Another expedition this week, venturing further north than I've ever been before - to Wick, Caithness, in the very top right corner of Scotland. Being mainly from the southwest, I'm always taken aback by the sheer size of Scotland, and even after flying into Inverness there was still a two-hour drive north to get to Wick itself. My recording footprint, up to the 20/3/2014. And http:/ bit.ly/beewatch. With only three British populations, this...

The weather on Sunday 31 May wasn’t that great when we headed to Alastair’s garden in Colemans Hatch, though considering that the forecast had been truly awful it turned out better than expected. Countryside Tales: May 2015
http://countrysidetales.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, 30 May 2015. Of Badgers, Blackbirds, Longhorn Moths and Listening To Gardens. I got attacked by a blackbird this week. It's the first time that has ever happened. The Blackbird Children I showed you in the last post all fledged Thursday morning apart from one who got himself stuck inside. The Green Finches are back, which is a Welcome Sight. I've actually only seen the male so am hoping his wife is egging somewhere nearby. I went Badger Watching on Wednesday night. We didn't see any badgers, de...
Stewchat...: May 2015
http://boulmerbirder.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. Its all down hill. A day of two halves today. Out birding with John this morning under heavy rain filled skies, seeing very little then out to Craster this afternoon in much sunnier conditions. But first, one of the years highlights for me, came not by staking out a mining subsidence pond in the Northumberland coalfields, no, but just by having a five minute sit in the garden. I remembered at about 6pm last night that this weekend is Garden Bioblitz. So this evening I have consulted...

Thursday, May 27, 2010. CHIP Day 3: 13th May 2010. L Music: Lady Gaga- Telephone. After school visitation, it's free and easy time again! This time we were released early and we were asked to settle our own dinner! Hence, we (me, xinjie, simin, youyou) went to 女人街 to eat the "楼上小龙包", yes the shop name is "楼上". It's 蟹黄小龙包 was delicious and cheap! XD The soup noodles were average, but it's 炒面(粗冬粉) was nice. XD So, if you ever go to 合肥, remember to shop half a day in 步行街 oh! Birch Reduction By Huahua.
