Hazelton Garden Challenge

Thursday, August 23, 2007. Good Food, Great People. The Learning Shop's "Garden Challenge Support Squad" wrapped up an incredible summer's work with a cosy evening barbeque. We harvested delicious cucumbers, tomatoes, snow peas, onions, zuchini, broccoli, and carrots to put together an amazing feast. In the months to come the Garden Challenge will be in its final stage of harvesting, preparing, and preserving the vegetables, herbs, and berries that have grown all season long. Tuesday, July 31, 2007.

A Group of Organic Community Garden Plots located in Smithers, BC. What is a "variety" of a plant, say a radish? It is a type of radish. A particular variety may grow better in your area, as well as having characteristics that you like, such as a certain taste or look. Seeds may also be "heritage" seeds or may be those developed by man to have special characteristics (but only for a single season) such as "hybrid" seeds. Check the "Seeds of Diversity". Knowledgeable gardeners in our area such as. Prince ...

Friday, August 24, 2007. End Of The Employment. Its been a great experience working with the storytellers foundation. It has been a pleasure seeing all the gardens growing, and all the different types of veggies people are growing. Throughout the work term one thing i can take out of this is all the gardening tips i now know. I'm more confident in the area and i am now unafraid to try tackle things such as growing my own overtaking peas! Posted by The Hazelton Garden Challenge! Thursday, July 5, 2007.

Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Simon Dodd was unavailable for an interview this summer. He's up with the sun, and waist deep in the river until dusk. We dropped by to take a few photos, and found a garden full of healthy lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, and even a few rows of corn - a crop we've been warned is very difficult! Wednesday, July 11, 2007. So we've been pretty busy at the Learning Shop. Since our last post we've visited all the garden challengers, worked on our kid's camp play (I'll be humiliating myself by hip hop dancing in a giant carrot suit, be sure to come see at Pioneer Days), and we fondle our plants on a daily basis. My raised bed is doing well. I have. And 4 varieties of merigolds in each corner. That concludes my july update, hope everything is going well with everyone else. Thursday, July 5, 2007.
