Gardeningbren in Nova Scotia. Growing adventures in an organic South Shore Veg and Flower Garden on Canada's East Coast. Friday, January 17, 2014. A Little January Gardening. Nova Scotia has had some great spring like days, today being another one. Almost all the snow shown in my earlier posts, has disappeared and although not double digits, it's been a great week getting up to 9 Celsius. Not to worry, the snow VILL BE BAKKK! Gardeningbren in Nova Scotia. Growing adventures in an organic South Shore Veg and Flower Garden on Canada's East Coast. Friday, April 24, 2015. With thanks). Oregon Spring is also new to us, but Mexico Midget which has done well in the past, still has not germinated. With our long winter, this is the first time I delayed starting tomatoes. Thankfully, the Lexan covered raised bed, has kept much alive through the winter. Spinach, Purple Wave Mustard, surprisingly, tiny Tom Thumb lettuce and arugula.
Gardeningbren in Nova Scotia: July 2014

Gardeningbren in Nova Scotia. Growing adventures in an organic South Shore Veg and Flower Garden on Canada's East Coast. Monday, July 14, 2014. This year, another wet but cooler year, has seen a leap in the perennial bed that surrounds the vegetable garden, especially in the front. Now we have not seen a bloom for at least four years so there's no telling what a new garden year will bring. Thinking an old packet of Dwarf Blue Curled Kale from 2008 wouldn't germinate but not willing to waste the packet wi...

Gardeningbren in Nova Scotia. Growing adventures in an organic South Shore Veg and Flower Garden on Canada's East Coast. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. The garden crew of two have been busy. We took down the monster maple by the house, moved the Hamamelis 'Diane' and congratulated ourselves on a job well done! I am surprised Diane came into bloom before the winter daphne (. He does most of the grunt work, I do the supervising. Works for me! But edging the beds, that's my job and I love it. May 5, 2015 at 1:36 PM.

GardenEnvy: Tip Toeing Through The Tulips
http://www.gardenenvy.net/2015/05/tip-toeing-through-tulips.html
My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece." Claude Monet. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Tip Toeing Through The Tulips. The most stunning sights I have ever seen. Tulips, tulips and more tulips. These individual, little bursts of color. By the thousands, like spools of ribbon. Against a jagged edge of hazy blue mountain ranges,. And topped off with blue sky and puffy, white clouds. No, I wasn't in Holland,. Although I would love to be there one day. While the tulips were reaching their prime in others. I recall ...

My Life and Garden. Friday, September 30, 2016. Virginia Creeper cuttings. Thank you Mom. I love Virginia Creeper. For me, it is the bright red in the fall. It is the brightest red autumn vine we have here on our Island. My mom has some beautiful, red Virginia Creeper at her place. I took a few small cuttings and then my mom arrived the next day with some huge cuttings for me. So they have been trimmed, rooting hormoned, and planted. And this is what the little cuttings look like in the greenhouse. Wedne...

Seeding the Good Life: August 2014
http://www.seedingthegoodlife.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 28, 2014. The Peach Tree Gives. Since I first started gardening a few years ago, the month of August has always been about tomatoes. But now that we've settled into our little farmhouse - one that happens to have an old fruit tree planted in front of it - I can happily say that from this moment on, August will be about peaches as well. Standing underneath the tree and looking up at all of the ripe peaches, you can't help but feel like a kid again. It's a magical sight really, and one...
Seeding the Good Life: Winter Project - Making Hypertufa Planters
http://www.seedingthegoodlife.com/2015/02/winter-project-making-hypertufa-planters.html
Saturday, February 7, 2015. Winter Project - Making Hypertufa Planters. After leaving the hypertufa for 24 - 48 hours to set, the planters were ready to be unmolded. (Using cooking spray helps.) Now they'll be covered in plastic and left to cure for at least a month. The curing process helps to strengthen the hypertufa - allowing you to leave it outdoors during the winter while other materials may split or crack. Once cured and completely dried, the hypertufa should lighten in color. That looks like fun&...
