Skip to primary content. My Inaugural Greenhouse review – August. August 15, 2015. Welcome to my first greenhouse review, I have been inspired by Julie from Peonies and Posies. Who each month updates us on the happenings in her greenhouse. Julie and some of the other bloggers who share their greenhouses are from the Northern hemisphere where they would experience similar challenges with the cold as I do with the heat in my greenhouse. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. September 5, 2016. When I looked back at my notes from seed season last year, I saw that of the 25 tomato seeds I planted only 10 germinated and none of the chilli seeds germinated. I only planted heirloom seeds last year and was hoping for a bumper 2015 tomato year, in fact it was the worst year in my planting history! This year I have been better at sowing and getting my seeds to germinate, what’s different this year I hear you ask? In Adelaide Sat 24...

Four decades of organic vegetable gardening and barely a clue. August 16, 2015. The carrots that started out their lives sprouting under a piece of plywood came of age. Of course there were a few that looked like fat six-legged orange snowmen, but I’m very pleased with the harvest. About 35 lbs. worth; more than we have room to store. The orange snowmen didn’t make the cut, but they’ll go to a friend’s horses. After pulling the carrot crop, I fired up the chicken tiller in that spot. Awesome. It’s ...

The Birds In the Bush. The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To n. Urture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul. Alfred Austin. Wednesday, 28 January 2015. The vegetable garden mid-summer. The first bed has tomatoes, basil, zucchini, cucumber, and Jerusalem artichoke. I am not sure what is going on with the tomatoes, quite a lot of the branches. Are dying off and the tomatoes don't seem to want to ripen on the bushes. Looking forward to some pesto.

Sunday, 28 August 2016. A cold weekend and new trees. Last week we had a couple of very cold nights down to -2 and the frost has burnt all the green shoots on the mulberry tree. The Casuarina or she-oak trees indigenous to this area from a distance all look like they are dying. The trees covered in pollen. It seems to like t...
