A Garden in Maine: June 2012

http://gardenmaine.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 14, 2012. The garden has been lush with strawberries, and I harvested my first sugar snap peas today, not even expecting to find them as I set about the string them a little higher on my front railing. Delicious, each of them! On the down side, I've also discovered peach leaf curl on my peach tree, and have been spraying it with a sulfur fungicide. I had a bout of it last year, but just picked off the few infected leaves. This year, it was too serious to not treat. Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

A Garden in Maine: Sugar Snap Peas

http://gardenmaine.blogspot.com/2012/06/sugar-snap-peas.html

Friday, June 1, 2012. I usually grow my sugar snap peas in my raised bed, up a trellis, but this year I decided to grow them in pots on the front steps, and run them up the railings. (I've started my green beans in there too, as well as some gladiolas and morning glory for decoration.) Hopefully it'll work out that I can sit on my front steps and munch on snap peas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On weekends during the summer, and garden when I can. Gardening podcasts I listen to. 160;Great advice o...

A Garden in Maine: April 2012

http://gardenmaine.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 5, 2012. Seeds in the ground. Finally got around to doing some planting. Well, I take that back. Last weekend I put my peas in the ground - in pots so that I can grow snap peas up the front railing, and in the window box that's attached to my fence, so that I can trail the peas down and along the picket fence. What the hey. Alas, I was too busy to have started no seeds this year, so I guess I won't be eating my favorite cucumbers nor taking a shot at growing artichokes as an annual. My ga...

Author Meghan Shinn lists many shade annuals that are readily available at Skillin's and that of course will grow extremely well in Skillin's Country! I particularly appreciate the non stop begonias we have available. They grow so well in shade or filtered sun. They are quite trouble free and the colors are second to none! April 30, 2012. Thursday, July 19, 2012. Perils, Plights and Pleas of Plants. Psssssssssst………. Hey you, landowner, gardener. Remember me? I am the beautiful perennial that you purchased in May. Ah, how you loved me then. You carefully prompted me from my plastic container, gently loosened my constricted roots, amended the soil with organic matter and even added the new favorite among my kin, worm castings. Could you hear my sigh of satisfaction as you slowly added water to my roots? So why am I calling out to you? You a...

I occasionally add a few comments in italics. And here it is:. Have you ever heard the story of how the narcissus got its name? Who knows what turns our weather will take in March? Here is a pretty good list of practical gardening tips for all of us:. If you have ornamental grasses. Garden Maiden | "If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change." ~Buddha

If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change. Buddha. Biointensive Method: Double Digging. I had the pleasure of meeting John Jeavons this past week at the 2015 MOSES annual conference for organic farmers in LaCrosse, WI. One of my greatest takeaways was creating planting beds using a method called ‘double digging’ so that I am not tilling up (disturbing and/or killing) healthy soil bacteria every year I plant my garden. I wonder what kind! Here is a little birds and...
